get new carpet

How I did it: We had new carpet installed 6 years ago but it just didn't survive the dog.  We received a really nice tax refund so we decided to put it into our house.  We went to a retail flooring store found something we liked and had them come out to measure and provide a quote.  It was a lot higher than we wanted to spend so we called the flooring contractor we had worked with before.  He brought several samples to our home.  We picked out about 4 and he then ordered samples.  We looked at the samples for a few days and decided which one we wanted, called him and ordered it.  The next week it was installed with new baseboard (smartest thing we did).

Lessons & tips: Shop around.  Understand the usage of the rooms so you know what type of carpet best suits your lifestyle.  Be sure to get large samples (at least 12" square) and bring it home to see what it looks like in your room.  Be sure to put the carpet sample on the floor. rather than on a table since that is where you will be viewing it when its installed.  It looks different on the floor then up close.
