Reading an O’Henry right now. I am hoping to do a small splurge once these 8 are finished.

after I finish the book I just started. I am averaging about a book a week. I hope to continue that.
As of today, I have read 25 books since creating this goal. Now that is twenty five books on the shelf to be cleaned, not in total. In total there are many more. Where it was packed with them, there is now a good 18 inches of clean space. Half empty. I don’t expect I will finish it this year, but by spring of next year I will. Then, maybe I will have saved enough for an amazon.com shopping trip and can start making progress on my Kurt Vonnegut goal.
Nice to have the downtime.
I wasn’t that impressed with Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister.
Took me a while. A lot going on this past month as business has been picking up and I’ve been pursuing some new interests. But it’s done. The hole on my shelf is about 5 inches wide now.
Next book, Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Macguire.
Got to chapter two and had to stop. This book was ridiculously unfunny. Wanted to keep reading just so I could add it to the list of completed books, but realized, the goal was to clear off the shelf, not necessarily force myself to read anything I did not enjoy. So, vrrrrmmmmp!, it’s gone.
Next is The Skein of Lament, part two in a trilogy by British fantasy writer, Chris Woodling. The Brits write the best fantasy, bar none. J.R.R. Tolkien, Robert Holdstock, Graham Joyce.
Won’t be as quick a read going at over 500 pages, but far more satisfying, I am sure.
Finished! I do not own the other two volumes and am a little irked that I have to wait to clear off the book shelf before I can buy them. I sort of thought each book would be complete and not leave off with an open ending. Oh well! I should be used to this with fantasy.
Anyway, I am now reading Bored of the Rings by the Harvard Lampoon, published in 1969. I have a three inch hole on my bookshelf where before it was overflowing.
Feels good.
Just finished and added to the list. I now have a gap on one of my shelves. As I read, the books get consolidated down. One blank book shelf and that Amazon wish list is mine! :-)
The Golden Compass is next.
