So they finally called me back, looks like I am going to be a volunteer firefighter after all.
How to become a volunteer firefighter

How I did it: Joined my local volunteer fire department. The actual firefighting training took six months, but becoming an EMT was a prerequisite, which also took 6 months. The firefighter training took both mental and physical work, giving up every Saturday and two nights a week for six months. Putting up ladders, learning knots, pulling hose, swinging axes, cutting apart cars... it's actually pretty fun stuff. Our training class started with 26 and graduated eight.

So i went to get my finger prints this morning so i can finish my application. after sending my whole morning in line, the guy told me to become a volunteer i didn’t need to feel out the blue paper (not sure how it works anywhere else, but in PG County Maryland we have a purple and blue card) so i got my purple card done but was told later my the fire department that i need both…so now i have to go back up there next week to get my other card printed

I love helping people an I like physical activities. I would like to volunteer for firefighting an hopefully become one someday. My friend accually talked me into it. Thanks to him.

I’ll be doing online college to complete my bachelors degree, and this will be great work experience and will be rewarding. I know most the older guys in the department, so i called to see if they were looking for more, and the Chief said he put out an ad in the paper for next week and they are looking for 4-5 more fighters. So I’m applying tomorrow. I know I’m in good enough mental shape, now I just need to make sure my Body can… (not that im out of shape, i mean if these old guys can do it, I’m sure i can)

i’ll be home from school for the summer and would like to, if possible volunteer at my county’s fire dept. is this doable, and if so, how would i take steps toward doing it?
