I discovered that 5 sets of 20 is a bit more rewarding than 10 sets of 10, and easier to get around to. I’m doing 100 5 or 6 days a week, but sometimes I do take a few (and just a few) to rest up. Any longer than a few days off makes it harder to get back into. Pushups are great because they build strength along the entire body, legs, hips, core, shoulders, arms.
When I started this goal, I thought that it would be too hard on me to keep up for more than a month, but then I got stronger!
I started last year with the goal to do 100 pushups every day, or a minimum of 25,000 for the year. If I missed a day I made up the balance the next day. I made it halfway through June before I needed time off. I had to skip the rest of the month with a sore shoulder, and also skipped the entire month of August so I could fully recover. I finished the year with over 30,000. It is a great way to get your upper body in good shape, but be careful. If you try to do too many when you are tired you may hurt yourself.
2 days in a row now. I’m doing 10 sets of 10 throughout the day, along with 200 crunches in sets of 20. Not too challenging yet, but I’ll have excellent core strength if I can keep it up. I may change this goal to have a one month time frame.
Besides this, my grand goal to achieve maximum fitness includes 2 30 min. jog/sprint runs, 2 10 min jump rope sessions, and an ultimate practice or 2 a week. But this is a good place to start.
I’ve been going to the gym with Rich twice a week and my arms have been killing me. But it will help with this goal.
I figure once I get more strength then it won’t kill me as much to do all 100.
100 push-ups a day is a lot of fun. It’s good for bragging rights, and pissing contests; but I want more. I’m giving up on this goal to make way for more balanced desires.
but I’m back in the saddle.
Since I’ve actually put on weight and gotten weaker in the last 12 months; I’ve started anew.
4 sets of 15, 3 times a week. Next week, I’ll increase it a little.
But I’m doing 70 push-ups a day right now. 7 sets of 10 each in between each of my “7Things” – my own little personal list of what I have to do each day. When I finish one of my 7 things, I do 10 push-ups and 20 crunches.
But recently, a few days into this… I’m so tired that I have to do girly-push-ups for about half of them. So I don’t think I can go higher than 70 until I’m doing them all the right way. But I’m doing it. I’m working on it, slowly, but surely.
How are you coming along, Shoseph?
