crookedhead is conquering her to-do list
last year, my hubby-person’s company agreed to fly me out to meet him anywhere in europe for a long weekend (he was working in finland, i was home here in canada).... i chose venice, and we spent four amazing days over the valentine’s day weekend together in that amazing place.
the weather was blustery but perfect for keeping the tourists at bay (and we’re canadian, so it was refreshing and perfect for us!)... the place we stayed at was completely luxurious and over the top, in Dorsoduro – much nicer home base than anywhere near the big tourist traps. we pretty much lived in heaven, eating, drinking, walking, absorbing all the eye candy and language and italian ease of things. i felt truly peaceful and happy there – i guess the pace and custom of the place is suited to my own rythms or something, because i have never felt so completely “ah, this makes total sense! of COURSE!”
my dream is that we go back there for a longer stay, and LIVE for a while there. preferably again during the off-season, preferably in a less fancy place, and hopefully long enough to make some friends and hang out and absorb history and culture and good living. also, to take some time to explore the surrounding areas more – we went to some of the islands on our last full day, and it was amazing and refreshing after the saturated city.
