Emma_NA is reading "The Master and Margarita"
A brilliant play! Having only ever studied Shakespeare’s comedies in school I really enjoyed the chance to read one of his tragedies. I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would and found the themes and characters engrossing. I will definitely read a few more of his tragedies and possibly some of the histories too

Hi, this is without a doubt one of the best (if not the best) plays ever! It is so tragic, yet so perfectly acurate on what befalls each charicter. My favorite seen is when Hamlet sees his fathers Ghost for the second time in his mothers room. It is so emotionaly charged, and so powerfull…. you have to read this if you want to understand why Shakespeare was so good.

the best of shakespeare, that I’ve read so far and despite it being a tragedy, it had some laugh out loud bits as well. I had a side by side modern english version which helped greatly in understanding the plotline and what was being said.
Definately worth reading and if you don’t like shakespeare, I recommend the modern english version!

I’ve realised it’s on my ‘1001 things you must do before you die’ list and I’m doing Hamlet for school so I thought I’d better add the goal. Am up to Act 3.

In my opinion It rivals Oedipus Rex as a work of tragedy. Hamlet is both fascinating and complex. I highly enjoyed it.
I recommend the Folger Shakespeare library edition with explanatory notes on the left, they really help.

Read it in high school. I’ve seen about 5 different versions of it as movies or on stage. Of the movies, my favourite was the kenneth branagh version. The one thing I liked about the mel gibson version is the way he said ‘words words words’ – he just captured it perfectly, he got the joke instead of sounding like a ponce!

at least 3 times in school. I suppose it was good to read it, since it is Shakespeare and all. Did I need to read it three times? Probably not. Shakespear did write other plays, you know. It would have been nice to read them instead of dwelling on Hamlet forever and a day. Of course, I also read A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Julias Ceasar (how do you spell Ceasar???), and we watched an actual performance of Twelfth Night (am I spelling any of this correctly? my brain must be asleep!)
I also own the complete works of Shakespeare, but have I read it yet? No. So maybe I shouldn’t complain so much! lol!
