Own a labrador

How I did it: This was an amazing adventure.

Firstly found a breeder i was happy with.

Put down a deposit then chose my lil dude.

Waited impatiently until he was 8 weeks old.

Brought him home.

And thats when the fun begins.

Lessons & tips:

• Do your research. I don't want to preach or put anyone off getting a lab. I had enough of that myself. But I cannot stress enough the importance of researching this. Puppies are a bit like babies/toddlers. They need alot of attention and care. But also, don't let people put you off unless they have a good reason to.
• Go to a breeder. It's tempting when you see those really cheap litters being advertised but you have to think, "Why are they cheap?" I'm not saying they're bad but look around and get some options. I deffinately recommend breeders, especially home breeders where the pups are brought up in the home environment. Mine was and has taken everything i his stride because he's had it since day one.
• Be patient. I found this out the hard way, if you find a breeder you really like stick with them even if you have to wait longer, it's best to be patient and get a puppy from someone your happy with rather than someone you don't want to know. Waiting sucks but it's worth it in the end.
• Be prepared... for accidents in the house, biting (lots of biting and believe me it hurts!) Howling at night and training. Don't let me put you off, but this is true pup behaviour, as my aunt found out, there is no such thing as an andrex puppy! They are little monsters when they're awake and little angels when they sleep.

Hopefully i haven't put anyone off but if i have i am sorry.

Be realistic and enjoy your puppy, theres nothing better than having a lab adult or pup sleeping at your feet as mine is right now.

Also if a puppy doesn't really suit you there are loads of dogs including labradors in rescue centres/animal shelters everywhere needing loving homes.
