We moved to SC in June 2006. I forgot I had put this post out here and I’m just getting back to it. I LOVE where we live and I’m so thrilled we made the move.
How to move to South Carolina
How I did it: I researched areas in SC and we made several trips at different times during the year to check out various neighborhoods. I kept a notebinder of all of our trips and notes about the places we checked out. Then when we made our decision to build a new house things got really scary. We gave them a down pymt and there was no turning back. There were some pitfalls and hurdles but nothing we couldn't handle. We even had the buyer of our home in MD pull out 2 days before closing and had to put it back on the market. But someone was looking out for us because we got another buyer within two weeks for more money.
Lessons & tips: I wouldn't suggest building a home in SC while you live in a different state, it's just too overwhelming.
Resources: I used the internet to learn about different communities - like crime, population, entertainment, etc...

Well, not quite…the movers boxed 90% of things up yesterday. All thats left is the garage and the furniture. So…its not going to take all week like the scheduled it for. They’ll be back this morning to finish, and will have the truck come pick things up this afternoon hopefully. The “crating” takes a bit becuase everything that is here has to get wrapped in paper and put in huge shipping crates that will then get trucked to SC.
So..we pull out of here the morning of the 8th. The hotel reservations for the whole trip are made. Last night on the road we are staying in Servierville, TN…Dolly Parton country. I told Britt that and she said can we go to Dollywood and I said not this trip. Not with 2 trailers, 3 cars, 2 dogs….no…we need to get settled first.
My feet hurt from standing all day.
Well, that’s about it…..
We’re getting closer.
We’ve been here at Holloman AFB, NM since December 1990, and except for hubby’s one year in Korea, and various other deployments, we’ve never left. But now we are. We were given choices…Abilene, TX; Clovis, NM, Shreveport, LA and Sumter, SC and we chose SC because its a total change from what we’re used to. It’s new experiences; new scenery; a change to change our lives. A new beginning.
We just found out and we have to be there in October. I’m scared. I haven’t moved in a long time and there is so much to do.
