I voted on Tuesday, and as excited as I was about voting, when I caught up with local politics, it just was not interesting to me. My interest in getting involved in politics was to feed my ego and to remind myself of my charisma. I don’t have the desire to make politics my stage.
People doing this are also doing these things:

going to at least 2 city hall meetings this year! Following state congressional sessions like a hawk!

It’s amazing everything you can do. The Canal Referendum is just in two weeks, but I don’t see a good point in neither both sides. The “yes” and the “No”, guess politics is part taking sides and keeping with it.
I’ve been contemplating getting involved in local politics for a long time. Now that I am a homeowner in a small community, I think it’s it good time to start.
One of my strengths as a communicator is understanding issues from multiple points of view. I tend to be really outgoing and passionate when I get behind a cause. I would love to get involved at a State and Federal level, but starting locally is a better way for me to test the waters.
I challenge everyone to at least be aware and informed about their local politics, even if they’re not involved. It turns out you learn a lot and feel a lot closer to your city, especially if you move somewhere new.
is on the planning committee for the proposed zoning of my area. Gotta start digging around in county politics….
Really interesting stuff. The movers and shakers were there – it’s the best place for networking I’ve ever seen. I’m making myself a regular. There is a lot of opportunity for citizens to serve on boards and I’m going to get myself involved that way.
referenced in the earlier entry, but it’s back on my calendar for Feb 6, and this should be a hot one – This meeting will include the vote on whether or not to lift the ban on high-rise developments by the bay. The current limit is 50 feet, and the proposal would raise that to 200 feet in a limited area…
As a populist, I must oppose this, but I’m also an economic realist, and this kind of growth maximizes the land value and makes a huge impact on the tax base.
My role will be that of an observer. This should be interesting.
And I have put the next meeting on my calendar. I just moved to this small town (about 18k population) and I’m really curious to see what happens. Things feel very tangible here…

or some clichéd dreck like that.
I’ve gotten started a bit with my school’s College Democrats group. I’m likely going to be doing a lot more when I hook up with the Young Democrats starting next month.
