Singing in public is not that big a deal. I’ve sung many times, weddings, funerals, parties, etc. One of my greatest experiences was singing recently for my Smooth Dance Club. I sung in Spanish two lovely ballads made famous by Rocio Durcal. It was a hit! People loved it! People danced to my singing. Hey, I think I’m hooked. Singing for weddings, funerals, etc. is a great experience too, however singing for a dance tops the list. Don’t be afraid to do it. It helps to be knowledgeable about music. And playing piano is a big plus. Learn to read music if you can and try vocal lessons too. It’s never too late to take them up. I guess being a piano teacher helps but hey I never took singing seriously until recently. Blessings!

its sooooooooooooooooooo much fun you guys have to do this, just remember laugh at yourself if you mess up
I was sooooooooo scared my first time. My heart felt like it was going to explode and I was shaking. I even left the mike mid-song because I couldn’t take it anymore. Then I bumped my head on the wall, when I sat down. I was terrible too! This was years ago and I still do it. The fear gets less intense each time you do it, but not much. It takes a while before you can actually start to feel confident. Make sure you pick a place with like 7 people there, including your best friend (and have your BF stand right in front of you, so all you see is her/him). It helps a lot. This is just one of those things you have to get used to. I love the rush I get now!
Went with my then bf, I very much felt that I didn’t get out near enough and so seeing as how this may be the only time I ever find myself in a karaoke bar I might as well take full advantage of it(!)
So reading through the list of songs their was only one that I thought I knew enough of the lyrics to, and sitting here thinking back I only remember that it was an Elvis song either having to do with a Hotel or the color Blue ::Laugh::
What I do remember though is that I was dReAdFuLL! Oh gawd I was just AwFuLL! it’s not that I’m incapable of singing it was the fact that I was sooo scared to be up on stage with every one looking at me! And thank goodness they had the words overhead for me to read or I’d have forgotten them all together! ::Laugh:: But looking back I can say it really was fun, and I’d definitely do it again but be a whole heck of a lot more prepared (say actually knowing ALL the words to the song before hand) nextime I go!

If you’re scared about doing it, go somewhere where no one knows you and do it there first. Once you’ve done it the first time, you see it’s not a big deal.
Finally did this…. in another city with some friends. Kind of amusing, and I could see myself doing it again.
