kaid1 is sleepface.
I want to say it was worth it just for the experience(I loved the idea), but in all honesty I didn’t enjoy myself much. 10 hours from New York to North Carolina to start, and then the scheduling was horrible. It was cancelled on me once, and once that was fixed it was delayed the rest of the time.
Maybe i’m just grumpy for lack of sleep… or next time i’ll have to bring my own company.
amtrak called the house this morning to tell us that our train would be delayed for hours and ask if we’d prefer a bus. john answered and politely declined. we called again and it is now only two and a half hours behind schedule. so we’ll get to ride by starlight. which is a-okay with me.
after all, if we get on after noon, then we can feel justified in drinking on the train right away! i kid, i kid.
my start date for my new job was pushed back til monday. with an unexpected last weekend of freedom, i looked at my 43 things and tried to decide what to tackle. of course, a train ride!
tomorrow i ride from san jose to santa barbara, a short leg of what is reputed to be the most beautiful train route in america. we’ll spend two nights at the harbor view inn and then we’ll get back on the train.
i’m very very very very excited. i’ve ridden the lirr, njtransit and nyc subway hundreds of times, but never have i done an amtrak trip. there’ll be a dining car and a lounge car with floor to ceiling windows. we’ll see the coast, take pictures and play silly travel games. it’s john’s second train ride ever in his life.
life is getting back to good.
First was from Venice to Florence… then Florence to Rome… amazing…. It was like watching ‘Under the Tuscan Sun’ all over again… I love trains… smooth, fast, and you face each other so you can actually hang out & eat… love-
Next week. I’m going on a train ride. At greenfield village. I’m not sure that should count, since it’s a small train. But i think it should.
In october, i’m going on the Amtrak to Chicago. So if that doesn’t count, i’ll be doing it sooner or later.
