Start a charity 2 months ago

I want to start a charity for parents of children with disabilities. I am a parent of two disabled children, and find it very difficult to get the help I need sometimes. It’s one of those things where if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself!

I can think of nothing more generous to do with my gift than to create custom clothing and accessories for the benefit of another. I have yet to pick a foundation or organization to fund to, but I plan to start small now and continuously grow through college.

My cause would be to help children obtain instruments and music lessons so they can supplement their education with badly required and overlooked creativity.

I want to start a charity for children who spend long periods of time in the hospital

any ideas of how I might start? 1 year ago

I think it would be awesome to start a foundation to help AIDS victims, children born with AIDS and thier mothers, in Africa. Does anyone know how I can get started, who to talk to and how much this is going to cost me?

What to do with those Lotto winnings? 1 year ago

Not that Ive won anything significant. But what would I do with it? I think that God wont give you anything you are not ready for, so I need to have a plan for when I do get a windfall. I was thinking of setting up a charity that helps families get out of the crushing debt scenario so many in America live in. There would be an application process, or it could be a flat out award for someone who is in need and will not get in over their head again. I would love to make a downpayment on a home for a single mom and her kids…so they have a yard and space to grow. My sister gave a single mom with no wheels her trusty little car, after she bought a new one. I once bought groceries for a family who was on food vouchers that where not yet valid. The manager made the man look like a fool in front of everyone, so I just walked up and gave my credit card to the cashier and told her to use it to pay for the milk, bread and baby formula in the cart…geez it wasnt like it was cigarettes or booze. Some folks…

Anyway…

Even if I dont get big bucks, surely there is something more I can do now…

you have to be happy in yourself and a be strong person spiritually 1 year ago

i started a project for streetkids in kigali, rwanda its called les enfants de dieu (children of god) http://www.enfantsdedieu.org and we basically rehabilitate former streetkids helping them to get rid of the bad habits that they acquired on the streets and provide them with the tools and skills to be reintegrated back into society… its difficult, some kids dont appreciate what u do for them, other charities may envy you and see you as competition for funds, your staff may steal from the project and there are times when you might ask yourself ‘why the hell did i start this?’ but then u come to realise that you cant help people directly, but you can help them help themselves if they choose… you realise that just because you want to do good in the world it doesnt mean that you are immune from having to deal with the cheating, lying and stealing that exist everywhere.. you realise that your intention is what matters the most and then it all becomes worth it. It is the most rewarding feeling when I bump into a kid who has gone through the whole programme and is now working in a restaurant as a chef or waiter, living independently, free of drugs and trauma who truly appreciates what you have done for him and who wants to show you everything about his new life.

The only advice to people wishing to do this is to become spiritually strong first, learn the art of being compassionate yet detached. goodluck ;-)

I think this would be great. I don’t really know what kind of charity, but it would feel good to give back to the world.
