stand up for a cause I believe in

every chance I get to either be a smart consumer and only shop at places I believe in and /or share my beliefs and reasons for doing so with others. For example, If I hear of someone heading out to get a cup of coffee, I tell them not to go to Caribou Coffee, even though they have good coffee. Sadly I found out that it is majority owned by an Islamic Middle Eastern bank (see: http://www.cariboucoffee.com/aboutus/ownership.asp) and supports the terrorists. I also avoid shopping at Wal-Mart and work on convincing my friends that because of its lack of support to its employees, they shouldn’t shop there either.

I objected to this offensive and racist rag being bought by the school I work in. I think it is highly unsuitable reading material for young people. However nothing has happened – it’s still there because others objected to it not being available and that it is highly suitable for young people due to its straightforward ‘child friendly’ language. My objection was pretty wishy washy and not as serious or eloquent as another teacher’s reinforcement of my objection.
So am not doing so good with this one.

i shall make a start with wal-mart, the one coming to town a few short months. oh, it could be so easy to give in to the ease of shopping there, but i shall resist and pledge my patronage to my local friends here.

I’m always Soo Consumed with my own life and how I can help myself…I need to stop being Soo Greedy and stand up for something worth a damn.
