Day One 13 months ago

I’ve never managed to complete a sudoku puzzle before today. I was quizzing my room mate about her strategy for solving them, then sat down and tried to use some of them. There was a lot of erasing, but I managed to finish the one in the paper today! Next week I think I’ll start on the book of puzzles I got for a trip I took in January and never finished a single page in . . .

Solve toughest puzzles without writing in numbers 16 months ago

I went through a book of 300 of the toughest puzzles (my fifth book altogether) and solved them without writing any little numbers. It’s challenging at first, but it only makes them more fun! It’s also helped me be able to play chess better.

My Mental Workout 2 years ago

The Daily Telegraph has an EXCELLENT online sudoku section (www.sudokulist.com/feed/DailyTelegraph/sudoku.htm). For help, I went to www.sudoku.org.uk and went to the Help with Sudoku section…the pdf file was very very useful when I solved my first diabolical puzzle a few hours ago.

Techniques for most of the puzzles are clever and easily recognised. Techniques for some puzzles, however, are a matter of brute force examination. I don’t really think it worth the effort to master sudoku, but I’m definitely a lot better off than when I started. Jellyfish and squirmbags are just no fun.

It’s something I’d like to have under my belt. It’s too addicting and unproductive to keep as a hobby, but it’s nice thing to have under my belt.

Learned some techniques from a YouTube video on Sudoku. Now, I’ve been able to solve puzzles on the “Light and Easy” category of my puzzle book without much difficulty.

Maybe it’s time to move on to the “Moderate” level.
