Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

I can’t very well upgrade a computer that I don’t have, and so I’ve shelved this goal along with software related ones for the time being. 21 months ago

Zamy crashed not 2 months after getting him. Another friend has promised her old laptop to me, and eventually it will come my way.

Zamy came at the best time possible. Having home computer access allowed me to kick my job search into overdrive, spend time with personal statements and correspond with my current employer. I’m hoping that with the promise of a permanent position, I’ll be able to get a harddrive to back up the Zamy files and really invest in my next computer.

My volunteer work is severely stunted when I’m trying to write copy, letters and research all from my phone. I can’t emphasize how critical having a personal computer is in order to do the things I want to do with my life. Until then I have to be determined, resourceful and patient. I feel that maybe this prolonged experience will lead to something bigger later on. 21 months ago

I was recently gifted a 2008 MacBook Pro after having gone without the 21st century for over a year. It is a beautiful gesture (so much that the computer’s name is zamyslony). The only issue (which I can totally live with!) is the outdated memory & battery life. Since it’s a 2008 the computer comes with 4gb. My current phone has 16gb! And the battery stays charged for an hour at best. It’s in mint condition and will be more than enough to help me find a job. I’m making this goal so that in the long run, it will be good for running programs & taking to the office or library where I might not always find an available outlet. 2 years ago
