Thought about this in May ‘06 and by June ‘07, I’d sold my automatic and had bought a 1996 manual shift mazda mx-6. I am self taught and loving it. I don’t drive to work, so I had the luxury to buy this beater and practice at my own pace. My only regret is that I should have spent more and bought the Saab 900 that I want to buy eventually.

You MUST learn how to drive a stick shift! Your enjoyment while you drive increases greatly and it also gives you complete control of your gears. Want to accelerate faster to pass someone? Down-shift a gear and get on the accelerator and rev those RPM’s up past 5,000! In the snow, on a downhill? Keep the car in 2nd gear and let the engine keep your car from going too fast. It sure beats riding the brakes and spinning in circles!
There is something about demanding a little more performance out of your every day car. Just knowing what it can do can only benefit you further.
I actually own a stick shift. Have for almost 4 years now. And I STILL can’t drive it. We bought it, and my husband drives it every day to work. I then, drive his car, which doesn’t have a manual transmission. Kinda silly to own a stick shift, yet not even be able to drive it. Gotta get him to teach me some day soon.
AND I LOOOVE ITTT..I can’t go back to an automatic…the power..OOOh the power..lol I love my Mustang
