a side benefit of living in Cambridge 16 months ago

Back in the day I went to Ohio State University. It was a terrible, worthless school – and after five majors and six miserable years, I dropped out. Moved to Cali and started working in the (hellish) computer business, so I did okay for myself. But it’s still a pain in the ass having no undergrad degree. (For instance, that’s why I’m living in Massachusetts, not Tokyo, today.)

When I moved to Cambridge a few months ago, I did so mostly to get the hell out of New York City – and because Cambridge is a really nice place to live. Little did I know, when I moved into an apartment walking distance from Harvard, that the University’s Extension School offers undergrad classes for hardly more than they cost at the state school. Enlightened admissions policy, too. Anyone may attend classes simply by paying the tuition; but they are not enrolled for degree credit. To be admitted for credit, one need only get a good grades in 3 HES classes in a row. Seems like a good standard to me – if you prove you can do the work well, then you are admitted.
