Well, three of my fruit trees were ravaged by insects this spring so only one apple tree and the plum tree have fruit. However, I am already starting to harvest food from our many raised bed gardens. So far we have harvested radishes, lettuce, bok choy, potatoes, onions, strawberries, and of course herbs. Still to come are tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash (two varieties of zucchini plus pumpkins), beans (scarlet runners and edamame) and carrots.
I am still hoping to put in winter crops so that I can grow food year-round.

... of having a sustainable garden. I have done this before in the past but our new home comes with 5 fruit trees and enough yard to manage a modest garden and possibly a greenhouse.

have made pickled plums. We call it UMEBOSHI in Japan. It is really sour and salty. Most foreigners don’t like it but its good for your health.
You can buy it at a grocery store but I’m making it! Those plums I bought are pretty small like candies so it would take only 2 weeks to pickle. Can’t wait!

I already have had all the cherries in April. was YUM! And now, I am waiting for loquats. It is still green and tiny though. :D
I have started grow red and yellow bell peppers. Hope they will grow well.

Garden is currently covered in suppressant membrane after soaking the earth in “ZAP-O-KILLA-WEED” (well that’s what I’m calling it!)
Rotivation to happen by March, and then we can lay turf, layout beds and set aside space for veggies in October!!

I would have a patch of garden dedicated to vegetable growing, get some little trees too, that would be nice. It’s either that or use a space at an allotment, but they’re few and far between these days.

The carrots were good, garlic – ok, onions – ok, radisheses – hot, potatos—gorgeous.

Must seem odd as I don’t actually eat fruit and vegetables, but there is something that’s oddly satisfying about growing things for yourself. Also, you know exactly what’s going into your food.
