learn Tahitian dancing

I REAly waNa LeaRn hOw to DanCe TahiTiaN!!!!!

I love watching this dance and i want to learn this dance because it is so awesome!

So for the past two years I’ve been going to the big banquet my school’s Hui o Hawaii club puts on. The fast Tahitian looks like so much fun (and it’s kind of hypnotic – it’s great to see the looks on people’s faces when the girls are performing).

This year, spur of the moment, I decided to be a part of the banquet (luckily, the kids in the club are super chill and open the banquet up to anyone who wants to participate). So I, along with a few friends, are dancing in it!

I’ve already learned a slow Tahitian (Auna) and can do the fast one (`Ote`a Vaiete is the song I think). The banquet is this Saturday! I can’t wait to perform!

Edit (2/22/09) – the banquet was yesterday and it was SO MUCH FUN!

I have always loved the art of Tahitian dancing and now more than ever I would love to learn, so I can perform at our wedding next year in Hawaii as a gift to my future hubby.

I’m dying to learn the Tamure, which is the fast shimmying Tahitian dancing everyone always associates with the island. From the looks of it, I’m either going to have to go to Tahiti or get myself and instructional video.

I just go my Tahitian dance video today. Of course I had to try it out as soon as I got it. I can do the hip movements fine, it’s putting the arm movements to it is where I’m having a hard time. The girls in the video have amazing figures and are really inspiring to get my ass in shape!

i just bought a workout video online called Island Girl Tahitian Dance Workout for Beginners. this is WONDERFUL!! this is two of my goals in one! now i just have to wait a week for it to arrive.
