How I did it: Kind of cheating.. just like how I went to Japan, I went to China twice through study abroad programs that my school, North Central College, offers. First I went in 2006 on something our school calls the China/Japan program, and I spent 2 months in Beijing and 2 months in Kyoto. I have re-opened this goal because I am putting it down as one of the places I may travel to in 2011. I am tossing up between Beijing and Angkor. I will go to Beijing first if the holiday is not too expensive. Given that a discount airline called Air Asia has opened up on the Gold Coast where you can fly to Kuala Lumpur and then to a city near Beijing. The price of a trip has been reduced dramatically. So the cost issue may be able to be overcome and we may actually get to Beijing. I have also re-opened the goal of seeing the Great Wall of China because of this new possibility 21/06/09.

One of the best times of my life.
The people were very kind and warm.
I have a neighbor and he just returned from China. He shared his photos of his trip and they were so spectacular that I hope to start saving and hopefully make this dream come true.

Yikes—traveling internationally? Hopefully the problem will reside. But, otherwise, I have my visa + passport and am highly anticipating the trip.

The plan is to go this summer. I will find out if it is possible by April 20th. In the meantime, I will be getting my passport renewed this weekend :)

This is a goal that I have been doing a lot of research on lately. I am particularly interested in finding cheap airfares from Australia to Beijing. If not we would look at re-visiting Hong kong/Macau and spend a lot more time in Macau then we did last time. We are hoping, if possible to complete this goal in about five years time. At that time, however, it will be more expensive because we will have to pay child rate fares for our son.
