Went to see the Editors last night and, apart from the dullard behind us who kept shouting his phone for the duration, it was pretty damned good. I haven’t been to Brixton Academy before; it’s a fantastic venue. I kept expecting a troop of vampires to descent out the huge faux castle architecure above and around the stage. The sound quality is a poor from the circle; but poor in that echoey grainy fashion that conjures garage recordings and clandestine bootlegs to mind.
The group are good, though very ‘samey’. After 4 or 5 tracks; you’d pretty much heard what they had to offer. When they kicked into the inevitable Talking Heads cover I found it a refreshing change that had me really looking forward to their second album when, perhaps, they’ll vary a bit more from the forumla they’re using at present.

Martha Wainwright and her family at UCL Bloomsbury yesterday, Neko Case (well, half of it anyway, don’t ask) on Wednesday and SuperThriller next wednesday on Brick Lane.
Not only am I getting out in London more I’m going to see all sorts of gigs. So I think I can say this goal has been met!

Going to treat myself to a Saturday from organising the flat (what’s the point? The builder has left it in such a state.) and go to church street for some breakfast and a coffee. I’m gonna read my time out and decide what to do today. Nice one.

Really good fun actually. I was a bit dismayed when it first started up, as, having just skimmed over the blurb, I thought it actually was Shakespeare’s Tempest.
I think once I realised that was I was seeing was a satirical acrobatic display of passionate silliness… I enjoyed myself immensely.
It’s a great theatre that is deserving of far more attention. Above a mediocre pub by the Greenwich train station; the Playhouse is no larger than a small bikeshed with the budget to match. However, every plan I have seen there has left me impressed by the sincerity, the ingenuity and frequently the skill and talent of the troupe involved.
It’s a great little place.

Found the most wonderful curry in the world on Weds in New Tayyab’s off Whitechapel. Weds night and there’s a que out the door.
Booked a burlesque show later in March.
Need to get around to going on the Eye; but maybe when the weather gets better.

Went to the National Gallery and saw the Rubens Exhibit.
Went to the Portrait Gallery and saw the Schweppes Portrait Awards
Went to the Curzon Soho Cinema on a whim and saw “Screaming Masterpieces”—ate in Chinatown beforehand. Knew nothing about the film except what it said on the poster. It was a good call. I now know more about Icelandic pop music than I ever thought possible!
Went to the National Theatre and saw “The History Boys” by Alan Bennett.
Saw Pam Ann’s act at the Bloomsbury Theatre
Wow, I think I did more going out and about in 10 days than I did the entire year! I hope I can keep it up!
