    trade? 1 month ago

So I’ve grown tired of my driving mix. I would tell you what’s on it but that would take the fun out of the whole trading process.

    Any takers?

i sometimes make cds for friends, but seldom receive them. i would be delighted to trade if anyone’s interested. i exist within the emily haines/cat power/belle & sebastian/elliott smith arena although i often stray. my ears need new melodies.

made four cds last night 7 months ago

to send away after easter. one swap already done- thank you smallsmile, what a lovely experience. thinking of trying for 43 swaps, very ambitious- might run out of music, but maybe i’ll end up passing on some of the stuff i get sent.

i’m still working my way through the 45 albums that the design company i’m working with stuck on my flash drive. i’m doing it very methodically- starting at A, working through to Z.and i’m still on A after a month or so.. giving each band a decent amount of air time

    so far i’ve listened to:
    the album leaf (unassumingly lovely),
    amiina (gorgeously icelandic whimsy),
andrew bird (still getting to grips with… lots there to get),
angus and julia stone (sweetly nostalgic), and
    animal collective (haphazard, demanding, brilliant)

If Only We Still Had Mixtapes 7 months ago

I used to make mixtapes all the time back in high school: lovingly hand-bastardized covers using cutouts from magazines and comic books, with overly-clever side names and a bizarre mishmash of songs and spoken word snippets. When I got a CD burner I made mix CDs too, but not as often: they just weren’t the same as the mixtapes. That being said, it’s been a while since I let my inner dj loose and run rampant over my music collection – I think this should be fun!

I’m a big fan of the whole mixtape/mix CD idea. I love hearing new things I might not otherwise be exposed to, but even if I have heard the songs before, I’m always surprised by the order. (Song order says a lot about a person). My friends and I have traded what we dig off and on for years, but it’s been a while.

So I’m going to try to start it up again. We’ll see how this goes…
