FlyGirl is having a wet day in Houston.
I have discovered my daughter has a secret habit when she is bored: she takes photos of herself. In planes, in class, in the car, on subways; it doesn’t matter where. She takes photos of herself, using whatever digital camera is handy at the moment, which often is my digital camera. So I discover these little bonus photos of my child whenever I retrieve my camera from her.

Alas, this goal has simply become impractical. I need to save up money to move into an apartment with my friend in January, and also to fly to Brazil in April, so it just doesn’t look like I’m going to be major any large purchases until then. Which really really sucks, because I’d really like to be able to get into my photography more right now, but it just doesn’t look like it’s going to happen, at least not for a while.

It’s just a matter of deciding which one. I think I may go for the more expensive, high-quality option. I’ve always wanted to learn more about photography, so I might as well get something I can learn to take really good pictures with.

I figure I’ll ask for this for my birthday, since I’m moving to California directly after my birthday and my parents are therefore likely to cater to virtually any request. Score?

My daughter bought me a Canon elph PowerShot SD630 for Christmas—just in time for Hawaii! Woo hoo! It is very tiny and fancy.
Now if I can just figure out how the little bugger works….

I have a Fuji Finepix A330 and I absolutely love it. It was an 18th birthday present to myself. Not the cheapest in the range (although certainly not the most expensive either) but so worth it.

I love taking photos, especially on trips. It would be nice to have a good digital that I can use to plug photos into e-mails I send to folks back home.
Now, mind you, it mortifies my daughter when I take photos. “You look like a TOURIST!” I guess at 16, 17, 18, the worst thing you can do is go to another country and look like a TOURIST. I just tell her, “I AM a tourist” and keep on taking photos.
But you know, I have noticed that when she thinks I’m not looking, she will get out the photos of past trips & events and study them intensely. Then if she catches my eye, she complains because she “looks weird” in the photos. Hmmm. Maybe I take her picture when she is busy complaining I look like a TOURIST.

I so love my digital camera. I had a 2mp Olympus and recently upgraded to the 5mp Sony DSC-W1. I have a love/hate relationship with this camera, mostly love. I have some issues with the ability (or lack of) to focus on things at night, but I probably need to play more to figure it all out. Definitely something worth having.
I also have a 1mp camera on my phone. (Nokia 7610)
