How to learn CPR and basic first aid
How I did it: I was required to get my cpr and first aid certification because i was going through a california teacher licensing program. but, i am so glad that i did it.
i contacted my local red cross, who gave me the schedule for the classes they offered. they signed me up, and i showed up on the day ready to pay the small fee and learn some important skills. the classes only took about a day each. they consisted of video, lecture, and hands-on practice with cpr dummies, and partners (not for the cpr, part). at the end, we were given a test to make sure we had retained the knowledge and could perform the skills. after turning in the test, they graded it and handed me my cpr and first aid cards.
it feels great knowing that i could help someone if they are in need...whether that be a family member, friend, student, or stranger.
Lessons & tips: i was required to get the cpr and first aid licenses for my teaching credentials, but i would recommend that everyone go through the training. it's always better to be prepared in an emergency situation.
