Margaret is going to do this. This time, she has the drive.
We’d like to do things differently this time ‘round and have already saved all the money we need for the “start-up costs” before we adopt a new pup. I told Russ I’d write the figures out so we could get an idea of how much we need to save and when we might be able to do this:
Adoption fee: $80
New Puppy Vet Visit: $25
Vaccines, including rabies: $30
Blue Buffalo Puppy Food: $35*
Dog crate w/ Divider: $60
Toys and treats: $35
Leash and collar: $15
Additional collar for Invisible Fence: $85
6 months Revolution Flea/Tick/Heartworm Preventative: $60
TOTAL: $445
What am I leaving out…?
*Jack eats this, too, so we won’t be buying two types of food, which is nice. We love and trust Blue Buffalo. You should try it, too!

Russ and I have a house now, and we are installing an invisible fence. We both have good jobs (mine starts two weeks from today!) and we’ve been discussing adopting a sibling for Jack. We want him to have that wonderful companionship that only two dogs can have. But it’s difficult for me, because I am an only child, and I only want one child, because I think it makes sense to allot all your time, energy, money, etc. to one as opposed to splitting your resources. I’m trying not to anthropomorphize Jack, but it would kill me if he felt betrayed by our bringing another pup into the pack. I love Jack more than I love a significant portion of my immediate family; I would never want to jeopardize my relationship with him. Does anyone else struggle with this? Any advice?

There is a woman in Virginia who is elderly and ill and she runs a shelter for 15+ dogs… she can’t keep them anymore so I’m seeing which one is available to be put on a rescue transport up to Massachusett mid June.

So I adopted another dog in november… but it didn’t exactly happen the way I wanted it to. I wanted to adopt a second dog, one to keep my older girl company.
Lucky passed away from cancer and then I had no dog. It really still hurts to think about. I debated about getting antoher dog, but the truth is, I knew I was always going to miss her, so why not get another dog out of an over crowded shelter while I was healing?
I spend a long, crazy and emotional day at North Shore Animal League and then ended up with a completely nutty new Basenji/Terrier mix named Bean. He’s shaking things up like a new baby would, and my parents and brother shower him with affection.
I still miss Lucky, but Bean is an amazing little guy.

I am headed to NC this weekend to meet a rescue that will hopefully become the newest member of the “pack”. It is important for us all to meet, in particular my 2.5 year old boy bullmastiff to make sure everyone gets along well. With any luck a 3 year old bullmastiff will come home with me!

Our most recent foster has become a permanent addition. We adopted her today. She’s a 2-year-old min pin mix who gets along well with our 14 and 12 year old shih tzus. Her rescue name was Millie but her new name is Joey Pants (we just mostly call her Joey).
Yay!

I don’t need another dog but Peter does. A friendly dog to push around and steal food from…just like he does the children.
