Starting to train again. 3 years ago

My biggest obstacle is finding time to swim. I joined a gym that has a pool but I haven’t made it to the pool yet. I even thought about buying one but really it’s a lot of money for something that I don’t need (since I can swim at the gym). There is a half-ironman in September. That’s enough time to get in shape if I would get down to training!!!

No Redlands Tri for me. 3 years ago

I wasn’t in shape to race, so I didn’t go. I did sign up for a gym that should open in March so I will have less of an excuse to not get in shape.

The gym has a pool, which has been a stumbling block to my training. And I’ll be taking a break from school for a few months.

    Looking forward to consistent exercise!

Sprint Tris are starting soon. 3 years ago

First there’s the Redlands Tri in February, then Bonelli in April. I would like to do quite a few races this year leading up to the Big Kahuna tri in September. However, life keeps getting in the way – like it always does. I missed my first event this year, a century ride, because of work. I will miss Solvang because of work. Arrgg.

I Watched the Kona Ironman Today 4 years ago

It was on t.v. so I watched the race. There are still posters up in Kona and stores are still selling Ironman shirts and stuff. I did buy a pair of running shoes at a tri store in Kona since they were my size and on sale.

I also did some swimming in the ocean and that got me thinking about how much I like to do races. If I could just get my schedule down for training. The weather was nice today but I was still unpacking and cleaning up the house. Tomorrow I will go for a long bike ride. I haven’t been out on my bike for 2 weeks because of rain and vacation.

And it’s time to start running at lunchtime again. I really want to do the JAL Tri in Honolulu next May. I had signed up for a race in Honolulu this year but bailed for various reasons. That still bothers me because I should have just gone and raced anyway.

Next tri will be the Tinsel Tri in December. It’s a short sprint race but I still need to train.

My Friend Wants to do the California Half 4 years ago

next year. I agreed to train with him but so far I have only managed to attend 1 of 3 training sessions. Argg. I blame school and work. Work and school. Both! Work has been out of control lately due to factors that I have no control over. Hopefully things should be slowing down next month. Then perhaps I can start running at lunchtime again.

So I just need to figure out when I can swim, and ride my bike more. I also agreed to run a 5K on Thanksgiving so I’d better start running.

Tomorrow morning I will ride my bicycle and then go for a run/walk. That will get my blood pumping.

Start with a plan 4 years ago

I had selected a half Ironman race but forgot to follow through with a realistic plan on how to get ready for it. So, I need to take advanatge of the local tri club by joining and then actually exercising on a regular basis.

Of course, all these plans are probably going to go out the window as soon as I start taking classes again.

Then again, I want to do the JAL Triathlon in Honolulu next May. So I have a goal and if I bought my ticket then I would have a real incentive to train.

I did the 1/2 vineman 4 years ago

A decent bike is key. Learn to relax in the swim, drink and eat on the bike…and then….just go out for a run. When you practice, make sure you ride the bike, and then do a 10-15 min run RIGHT after. It gets your legs used to the transition.
