i’ve found that some days its just impossible to compose: the same ideas come out as yesterday or the day, week, month before; or perhaps no instruments are in reach (which is more of an excuse because one doesnt NEED an instrument to compose)...
so somewhat necesarily, ive come to the satisfying (but perhaps temporary) conclusion that simply doing something fresh and creative with music every day will nourish, support and inspire creativity for actually composing pieces.
the tools im using to spark creativity currently involves learning new instruments: charrango, zampoƱa, kena and flauta traversa. although the learning process in and of itself may seem to be a step backward to square one in terms of my command of playing music, the simple fact that im producing new timbres is enough to inspire and spark epiphanies for composition. for instance the nature (tuning, pitch and range) of these andean instruments seem to breath and speak in certain tones and modes, from which myriad new melodies and progressions can be invented! 6 years ago
