This is definitely worth reading and not just so that you can understand the dozens of words and phrases that are sometimes used in political discourse.
In fact I would so far to say that all of Orwell’s work is worth reading.

Orwell’s “Nineteen Eighty-Four” is an important piece of literature not to miss. His portrayal and predictions of a totalitarian regime seems startling accurate.
llong is growing slowly but surely
WAR IS PEACE
FREEDOM IS SLAVERY
IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH
Yeah, sure, it’s worth doing… but overrated. ;)
I’d personally reccomend One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey in lieu of 1984.
Um, this is probably the best book I’ve ever read.
And it’s not like it’s a lofty or unattable goal, either. The book’s much more accessible than, say, A Tale of Two Cities…
Do it!

An Orwell is an artist, Orwell wrote that he wanted to make political novels a popular genre, it hasnt happened yet but if there where authors like Orwell I would say it would be a certainty.
This book is very highly recommended, it is gateway reading and I would hope people who read Orwell would read his journalism and letters and his manifestos like The Road To Wigan Pier or The Lion and The Unicorn.
The book is about one man’s struggle to exist within a perfectly totalitarian society, no aspect of life is left untouched by the regime, not literature, not love, not work or leisure or personalising your appartment with belongs, even speech and memory are under attack.
One aspect that isnt thought about often is that the regime itself is over whelmingly popular, it is fighting little understood wars abroad and thrives upon patriotism and the publics loyalty.
I read this book about once a decade. Each time I read it, it has new resonances. If there were one book I were to reccommend this would be it.
Worth reading. And rereading. And rerereading. I’ve not rerereread it though;)
