My goal is actually to live in Paris for at least a month or two. If anyone has suggestions, ideas, helpful hints.. I’d love to hear about it. I’ve been wanting to live abroad for a while, and France has always for some reason has been such a magnetic force for me.
My plan thus far has been to
1.brush up on my French.. I know I could get by, but I want to blend as much as possible
2. Work obsessivly and gain freelance graphic / marketing clients so I can still have “some income” while I’m there
3. Read as much as possible
I want to live in Paris for a year but I have commitments here that I feel are holding me back.
FausseParisienne is wanting this to be over
So I’m going to be an illegal immigrant. Who would have ever thought. In the past year I have been to Paris 4 times. My longest stay being for 3 months. I realize that I make no commitments while I’m here because I’m always thinking “Why should I? I will not end up here…I cannot end up here.” So I might end up getting my plane ticket for June, when my job is over, cross my fingers and hope for the best. Luckily I get paid for my two month holidays from work. So perhaps if I knock on enough doors and do enough pleading I can find work and hope someone will give me a chance at getting papers.
My boyfriend finally found a job in Paris, so now we’re seriously talking about me moving there.
But before I can move to Paris, there are several things I have yet to do. First, I have to pay off my student loan debt, which will take me about a year or so. Depends on how well I restrain myself at Saks and Neiman Marcus. Then, we’d have to get engaged/married so I can legally live there.
à petits pas, à petit pas!
I’ve been to Paris twice. Now, I’m feeling the pull to go again. I even went so far as searching for apartments (found one, too!), but that visa business just sounds so difficult. : / I get disheartened just reading about it.
Worth doing!
I’ve been here for three months, since May 2007. . . definitely the best thing I’ve ever done. . .so far
Worth doing!
Living in Saint Germain des Prés for the next 5months, been living here a month!
It’s great! Everyone should live in Paris at somepoint!
Worth doing!
I once lived i dotzheim and i wasn’t very far from paris, france. And someday soon i’m about to be going back over there. And we’ll make a life story of my life over there in Europe.Thank you for your time.lothar patten.
I started going to Paris in ‘98, when my sister moved over. (She initially moved for a year – it’s now nine years later, she now has a husband and two kids and has only ever been back in Ireland on holiday). I’ve just fallen for the place : the city itself is beautiful, I love the atmosphere and the attitude around the place and – despite what some would have you believe – I’ve always found the people friendly, helpful and welcoming. The weather is also a big plus : it can get hot and sunny there, while it’s usually only cold, rainy and windy here.
I’ve had enough of having to come home. I’ve sent off a couple of jobs applications for jobs…I just can’t seem to convince myself I stand a real chance of getting there permanently though.

jjill asks,
“Can you give my husband and I any advice as we move to Paris? Which neighborhood to raise a family? How much is a two bedroom apt. costing now? We will definately use the metro, as oppose to buying cars. Any tips on metro riding? Thanks”
