I’m up to running four miles at a time, multiple times per week and it already feels empowering and uplifting.
How I did it: Commitment to a diet and a training schedule. I went on to run another marathon and did an Olympic distance triathlon that same year. Read how I did it…
Hudzo it's going to be an awesome day
How I did it: Followed Jeff Galloway's training method for six months. I used to be a sprinter in high school but never ran distance and until I began training had never run more than five miles in my life. Was not running regularly when I started. Took me five hours to complete the thing... which is ok: my goal was to finish and be in a good enough mood to want to do it again. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I trained with AIDS foundation, they're a great group, so supportive. Working with a group, especially a charity group gets you out of bed in the morning. Read how I did it…
How I did it: Running a marathon was something I had always wanted to accomplish. It seemed an overwhelming and impossible feat, but I was determined to do it. I thought if I could accomplish something as difficult as running 26.2 miles, I could do anything! So, at age 30, I was living in the NYC area and decided that the local ING New York City Marathon would be the most convenient race to do. Since so many people … Read how I did it…
HisGirl1985 Thinks It's All Just A Bit Too Hilarious
How I did it: I did a mini marathon (only 5K) for Cancer Research ... I jogged a bit, then walked a bit until the end, when I sprinted through the finish line! It was the best day ever, I felt so proud of myself and raised £65 (approx $110) towards Cancer Research too. I did it in memory of my 2 Grandads and one of my Uncles ... plus for my brave Nan, who is still here to tell the tale, thank God (love you Nan x). The 5K took me 42 minutes ... next yea… Read how I did it…

Regardless of the event you want to know what is the best way to lose weight so that you can fit into a tuxedo without your muffin top tummy flapping over the cummerbund, or you want to be able to wear a sexy gown, and have the slim, sexy body to carry it off successfully.
I did a half marathon in Inuvik (top of Canada) at night on the summer solstice. The sun never set. Picture taken at just after midnight!
Training for the marathon is my first step and, seeing as I can barely run a few yards before collapsing in a breathless mess, it is undoubtedly a difficult step.
I have found a training schedule for beginner runners online and I intend to follow this. Hopefully though it is for beginners like me and not just beginner runners who are regular gym members or something!
As step one, today I will do two mile. The schedule says that I can walk or run this depending on my fitness level so that sounds promising. A tip it offers is to run for two minutes and walk for three minutes. I think that sounds manageable but of course I may have a different attitude later…
I finally made it past my 10 mile mental block. This weekend I successfully ran 16.5 miles. The hardest part about yesterday’s run in San Francisco was exercising my mental power and pushing myself forward when the doubts started to creep in my head. I had to fight my mind more than I had to fight my body!
Although I ran slow I covered the distance. I’m happy God gave me the strength and endurance to double my time!
Happy running everyone!
It is a serious physical challenge and one that I want to try. not a keen runner although I do other sports – more stamina focused though!!
CEatherton is finishing things and starting new ones
This has been a goal of mine for 3 years running, I really need to tackle this! I plan on getting in shape and actually staying in shape throughout the winter instead of getting lazy!
I’ve been slacking. Not with the running, but with updating 43 Things.
The running has been going good. I’ve been racing every weekend and I am scheduled to run my first 1/2 marathon on July 18th. Should be fun.
I got hooked on chasing down a PR in the 5k for a couple of weeks, but have since moved on and most recently have been entering 10k races. (Still trying to break 40 minutes though, which years ago would have been a warm up. Go figure!)
I think I’ve done a good job of trying to balance the LSD and speed work (i.e., long slow distance and intervals for those of you with your mind in the gutter). I can cover 11 miles now with relative ease, and to just think that in January a 1 miler would kill me!
It certainly hasn’t been easy, however I’m really glad I set this goal. By chasing down the marathon I reconnected with running—something that I’ve always found a certain joy in. Too bad I misplaced it for the last 11 years. Most importantly I’ve been able to share this re-discovered love with my son, who I’m pleased to say, completed his first 1-mile race at the Clive Running Festival two weeks ago.
Looking forward to some 4th of July racing!
Now I can run for long time and long distance, I want to run a marathon. I want to find one in my location to participate.
