It’s difficult when the people around you starts to realize that you can understand mandarin. They automatically switch to Taiwanese for you not to understand a thing.

i’m pretty fluent in mandarin,
and i can understand taiwanese pretty well,
but i can only speak a few phrases.

i’m tired of my parents using it to say things about my brother and i, knowing that we won’t understand it.

I used to be super-fluent in it before second grade, now I’m a bit clueless. I wanna do this again.

need to relate better with the father-in-law. perhaps I’ll research at Sinica for a year or two after graduation
