It must be great backpacking through Europe, starting from Portugal and Spain and finishing in Rusia to the east.
How I did it: Here is the general breakdown:1. Do it while your young. Stop thinking about it, if you have gone this far to research it, do it. Do not second think yourself, you will only get a ONCE in a LIFETIME chance to do this, so do it. 2. Work, save money. 3. IT IS NOT AS EXPENSIVE YOU THINK!3a. Hostels, couchsurfing.com...3b. I lived in Europe, 15 countries, for 3 months, for under 3,000$USD, this included roundtrip transport from NY, 15use/2mon… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I worked extra hours on top of a full schedule in school. By setting up a separate online savings account for the specific purpose (at no extra cost at my bank), I was able to monitor how much I had saved. I budgeted by finding out where my money was going and where I can save - I found areas where I could save $300 a month for the purpose of going to Europe. I found a RELIABLE friend to plan with. We set deadlines… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I bought a Eurail ticket. And ... I just went. I traveled by myself. Mind you, I'm a diminutive 100-pound girl and I was traveling a pack that weighed 55 pounds. It was tough sometimes. I went from Rome to Naples, Florence, Paris, Brussels, Bruges, Amsterdam, Berlin, and London. Read how I did it…
WillowM I'd forgotten how hard this whole 9 to 5 thing is! :S
How I did it: Me and my boyfriend had always talked about travelling, ever since we got together so it was a shared goal of ours. This made us determined to save enough money to fund our trip, though we didn't really have a prepapred plan of where we would go, except that we would travel through Europe and we originally wanted to go to Asia afterwards but we heard about trouble in India and Thailand and it didn't seem to be very safe for tourists… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I worked for enough money to buy a plane ticket and then bummed my way around, staying with people I met along the way. The hardest part was to get on the plane by myself and just do it. I waited a really long time for someone to want to travel with me but I couldn't find anyone willing and able. I worked a lot of hours at my job and saved as much as possible so that I could afford it. Read how I did it…

It’s not necessarily set in stone, but it looks like this trip will be about a month long, and it will happen sometime within the next year!
Dora Thang is setting goals
My ultimate dream is to backpack around the world.
All the seven continents. ;)

Well I will do this in the next 5 years thats my super goal! I can only speak french and its BAD french. Ill probably get lost
jeeterbug works nights so 1125 pm is early morning for me... what to do...
I bought an eagle creek 70L maiden voyage (it’s on close out sale for anyone that is interested!!) No solid plans yet, but I’ve been wanting to do this since I was sixteen. And now, nine years later, I’ve got a bookbag… hahahaha. I’m a little slow. I guess buying a bookbag just makes me feel like I’m getting closer. Been saving money, but things have come up and I don’t have too much stashed away.
I was thinking that maybe I could backpack in two week intervals since I don’t know if my work is too keen on me taking three months off (Personally, I don’t have any problem with it…). Any feedback on that idea? Would it be better to take one long trip, or several small trips across Europe?
I’ve always loved travel and it’s only a short trip over to europe so i should really make the effort…i’ve never taken the time to though…maybe next summer…maybe…
I have wanted to backpack across Europe for quite sometime now, but I have put it off for other things that I thought I have wanted. This is my first “thing” added to my list. I was wondering if backpacking across Western Europe alone at 19 (male). Thanks

Jeff asks,
“This may seem like a silly question, but do hostels usually provide towels? If Douglas Adams has taught me anything, it's to travel with a towel, but it's one more thing to carry around. Secondly, would it be unwise to bring my laptop?”

sarah127 asks,
“Can I plan on locking my backpack up in hostels when I travel, instead of carrying it everywhere with me? I bought an internal frame backpack, but I'd rather return it and just take a smaller normal backpack that I can just lock up somewhere instead!”
