I’m only 24 and have been summoned twice. The first time, they decided not to use a jury. The second time, I actually lost the paperwork and wasn’t able to do it. Third times the charm?

It was a gratifying experience. We put a punk criminal in jail and got him off the streets.

the not-so-rural juror... 21 months ago

king county court. it was a criminal case where the defendant was totally creepy. he ended up taking a plea bargain after the trial had started. the prosecutor and the defense attorneys said that was pretty rare. usually a plea bargain is done before the trial starts. but we heard a day of testimony. i’m kinda glad he did b/c up to that point, it was pretty clear that he was a scary guy and i wasn’t interested in sitting in the same room with him for too, too long. the downside, we didn’t get to see the case through. the process of getting chosen through the voir dir was pretty interesting. it’s NOTHING like you see on tv or in the movies. it’s a lot of hurry up and wait and stare at the floor a lot. everything seems to take forever. but it was an interesting experience and i’m glad i did it. it was an extra bonus that the prosecutor was really good at her job and thus made the whole process even more interesting.

Settled out of court. 2 years ago

Well, I did serve once. Got selected and sat around and sat around for hours. It got settled out of court before we even made it to the jury box. I learned NOTHING.

I was the foreman. It was good to have done once, but I don’t want to do it again.
