Over the past four years here at 43Things, I’ve celebrated so many things with Adar. Besides the holy days, and birthdays, we all were so happy for her when she became a rabbi. That joy was equally present when she fell in love with catattack and bonded together in matrimony. Even though the legality of their relationship is now in question, the love that they show each other every moment transends man’s law. Here are my wishes for her for the coming year:

May she continue to work toward marriage equality while setting an example for those around her. May she just do it and exercise regularly while making the right eating choices too. And may she develop that habit of putting things away so she doesn’t have to have a goal to clean for Passover. 4 years ago

One of Noodle’s favorite books right now is called ‘Emily’s Balloon’. It describes how a little girl takes home a balloon and her mother ties a spoon to it so it won’t float away. They go out into the garden and play house, and she makes a crown for it, and then the wind sweeps it up into a tree. Emily is heartbroken when her mother can’t reach it. She wanted to eat with it, brush teeth together, put on jammies and go to bed. Her mother promises that tomorrow, she’ll borrow a ladder and she’ll rescue the balloon. That’s good, but Emily is still worried. She looks out her window, and there’s her balloon, glowing yellow against the sky like a moon.
