I went this past summer 2007 and stayed at a nice environmentally friendly hotel(score!). It was my first time drinking wine and I didn’t like it too much but I finally got to drink wine in Napa Valley!!!

We went in November. The vineyards in Fall were very beautiful. We spent a long weekend and tasted/drank lots and lots of wine.
It can get very crowded though depending on when you’re there. But I recommend it highly.

I have been working on this thing for a while. But just drinking wine doesn’t mean that I am near completing this goal… I guess I will have another glass.

one nice thing about where I am is the wine country is less than a half hour away!

A couple of suggestions for those who make the trip – take the Silverado Trail instead of hwy 29, and use the cross roads to cut across. You’ll spend lots more time in the wineries and less on the road in traffic.

One of the newest wineries in the Napa Valley is Darioush – I give it a high rec. Gorgeous architecture, yummy wine.

For organic wine, Robert Sinsky, ZD. The winery at Sinsky serves a little food and credits at least part of your tasting fee to purchase.

Sonoma Valley is also lots of fun, and many of the wineries there don’t charge.

Also, many wineries don’t charge for tastings if you join their wine club.

do not go just to get buzzed.I’m glad I went when I did I have all kinds of dumb allergies now so I can’t drink some wines and Champanges( or sparkling wine)and all the pollen blowing around and the dust from the dirt roads so I’m a mess if I go now.

The Napa Valley is such a beautiful place, I love every trip I take up there. Unfortunately as the Napa Valley has becomre more and more of a tourist destination it’s become less approachable. Wine tasting fees are growing higher and higher, the crowds are getting worse and it’s just not as much fun for me as it used to be.

I’ve been visiting the Napa Valley for a long time. My parents used to take visitors to Napa back in the mid to late 60’s when we lived in Santa Rosa and they’d take us along as well. As a kid I didn’t always appreciate the trips, but I do have to admit that I had a lot of fun. I clearly remember walking through the old Christian Brothers Greystone winery looking up at the huge redwood tanks that held thousands of gallons of wine. I also remember the Berringer caves when they were all covered with the black moss and not the concrete substance that’s there today.

I’ve visited the Napa Valley on my own since I turned 21 and have taken many trips there. One used to be able to spend the day in the valley tasting wine without ever paying a tasting fee. I always went looking for wine that I enjoyed and later bought plenty of wine I’d discovered on my trips to Napa Valley at wine stores, in restaurants and in grocery stores.

So, if you visit the Napa Valley be choosy regarding the wineries you visit and try ones you think you’ll really enjoy. There are still some where you don’t have tasting fees or where you get the tasting fee applied to a purchase.

I recommend visiting V Sattui even though it’s somewhat a Disneyland of wineries. They have a good deli and free tasting. You can buy a bottle there and then take it out to one of their picnic tables to enjoy over food you’ve brought or food you’ve purchased at their deli.

One can still have a lot of fun in the Napa Valley without breaking the bank, but you have to do a little research first.

I just told my husband that on my birthday next year, if none of my local friends are pregnant, I want to go wine-tasting with them in Napa. When I went wine-tasting in Australia I had a blast! (And the people at the Australian wineries couldn’t believe that a CA girl like me had never been to Napa!)

Put Coppella on the list!  — 2 years ago

I was at a conference out thar a few years back, and convinced my boss (who was with me) to blow off the last day so we could go drink some wine. I think we went to a dozen wineries and at almost everyone we were nice to the pourers and they were nice to us. Came home with about a dozen bottles of awsome wine.

The coppella (sp?) was my fav, wine wise and winery wise. Kewl meuseume of movie stuff.
