I love watching American Movie Classics, as well as episodes of the original Twilight Zone, and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. There’s something so vulnerable about a black and white film that’s been lost in the hyped up special effects and Hollywood ‘megastars’ of todays blockbusters.
Bob Hope and Lucille Ball, I have seen the beginning like twice but always was on the go to do something else, the other day it was on TCM and I just sat there to finish it. I can now say I learned the facts of life from watching the facts of life.
Felt in the mood to watch something old, caught this one. Its biggest name for me, is June Allyson, and she is smoking, not sure what movie I watched with her before, but either way gorgeous woman. The acting was heart felt as well, I would rank it high on the list.
Which I viewed on Easter, stars Fred Astaire and Judy Garland, and supporting actress by Ann Miller. I guess originally Gene Kelly was suppose to be the lead man but broke his foot, and Fred was retired but when mentioned he would be with Judy Garland, he said yes, seriously which guy would not say no. Either way it was a good story, as Fred’s character had to turn Judy into a dancer.
Children of a Lesser God, made in 1986, and Oscar winner best actress Marlee Matlin, but was also nominated for best actor William Hurt and best picture. Its a film about a romance between a sign language speech specialist and a former deaf student of the school. Just a great film, for you softies out there go watch it.
Viewed Sabrina, which stars Audrey Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart. I must say Bogart is the shit, I think the race is neck and neck between Bogart and Clift. Sabrina is about how Hepburn loves and older man, but he is engages to get married, so Bogart is the brother to the older man and he comes up with a scheme to spend time with her and make her love him so a financial deal can go through, but alas Bogart our tough guy softie falls for her in the end. The other movie is Breakfeast at Tiffany’s which has Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard (I love it when a plan comes together). Essential Hepburn is a wild gal, and looking for love that offers money, and Peppard eventually falls for her, only to get blown off by Hepburn. Its a very relatable movie, seems like its a life story for many, except the ending. I highly recommend both, but I think Hepburn is hotter in Breakfeast at Tiffany’s, which was made 7 years after Sabrina.
Starring Albert Finney really, great acting on his part. Also has Sean Connery and Ingrid Bergmann, the later being enough motivation to make me watch it. Its a great murder mystery, and I think for its time would have been a wow-er. I still really liked it. Bergman btw got best actress Oscar. And its also based on an Agatha Christie book.
This movie stars Sidney Poitier, who I have always loved since my viewing of Patch of Blue. This film is about Poitier helping a group of nuns build a church. Yes some religious themes, but most of the values in the film extend beyond that religiousness. This film was also the first film to mark a black person to win an Oscar for best actor.
