I got a guitar about four years ago, but I haven’t learned it. I want to take professional guitar lessons so I can write songs and accompany myself when I sing.

How I did it: I decided to just pick up my guitar and play.. I kept playing the music of my soul...not anyones music but my own. often and without judgement upon myself. eventually I realize "hey! I can strum a note or ten" So I sat quietly and I strummed the same four notes in different manners until I was comfortable with "my" song. Eventually I got more aggressive with those (and a couple more) notes and made my own "song". The most simple and elega… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I registered on the internet for a teacher nearby where I stayed, and I was contacted within days. I had no idea whether I was going to learn acoustic or electrical, and when I first met my teacher it turns out he's teaching classical guitar. It introduced me to the wonderful and romantic world of Spanish classical guitar, and I found practicing the guitar every time I come home from school very therapeutic. I am glad to have at least lear… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I went to my local music shop and signed up for lessons. This was over ten years ago when I was in high school. I think I took lessons for about two years. I also took a few years of piano. Read how I did it…

How I did it: When I was pretty young, I remember my parents having their co-worker over for dinner and he brought his guitar. He could play that one song about the blues by Whitey Ford, and I remember wanting to learn to play it. A couple years later, I got a guitar for my birthday. I was 12 years old. A month later, my mom and dad agreed to put me in guitar lessons. I did that for about four years, when I decided to stop… Read how I did it…
How I did it: Well you can learn to play by yourself easily, as thats how I initially started, BUT, taking guitar lessons will definitely help you understand the vast techniques and styles that are out there quicker and more deeply. Read how I did it…

Well, I already sing, so I thought it would be a good idea to try to take guitar lessons! It’s not one of my more important goals, but I’d like to start by the end of the year!

I wanted to start lessons again and here I am. I am committed to the studio where I am taking lessons, as I have paid up for the month. If I like it and feel like I am continually learning, I will continue. If after one month I am either a) not enjoying it or b) don’t feel like I’m learning anything new or beneficial to my craft, I will keep teaching myself at home or try to find another studio : )
So I guess I’m going to mark this as done!

I realized something this weekend. If someone gave me money in a card… I wouldn’t throw it in the garbage, or just let it sit there on the counter and do nothing with it. I’d take the money and put it towards something…. it is a gift! It is meant to be used. Not ignored or tossed to the side.
I sing and play guitar… musical talent is a gift… why would I not go ahead and develop these gifts instead of letting them sit “on the counter”...
I am taking guitar lessons and loving it! Music is the window to the soul! How fun to have an amazing teacher! Thanks Steve from Oz’s!
