I have recently gotten some books on knitting and crocheting and would like to learn to make afghans and baby items to donate to different charities.
How to learn to knit and crochet
How I did it: It didn't really take me three years to do this, just three years to get myself to sit down and learn some of the stitches. Also my skills are very much a work in process. Currently I've got three projects going on as gifts for Christmas. Hopefully I can finish them before then!
Lessons & tips: If there is something that you want to do but it seems you always put it off, it helps to invest in the materials and the time to do it. I broke down and bought an actual instruction manual, yarn, needles and hooks, and made time in my schedule to do it with no distractions.
Resources: Encyclopedia to Crocheting, Stitch'n Bitch, and Simple Crochet had both the technical skills shown and also served as motivation with their many pictures on the patterns and projects that could be done.

Abigail has adopted a little Callie!
As I was going through all the old sewing stuff, I found a ball o yarn and my sad attempt at knitting from the LAST time I tried to learn from Grandma and Lucille. Now that I finally will have some free time during the day, I may start attending, with my found ball o yarn, the Sit and Knit group at TWC. Their flyer says that you don’t need experience to go there … so I just might. They have to have taught someone as bad as me to do this before…
JunieMoon is up in smoke and burnt down to size
I learned how to knit and re-learned to crochet. Now I just need to remember to count my stitches and keep the tension the same and I’ll be totally awesome!!!
I want to be able to learn to knit and crochet so I can give homemade gifts to people instead of buying things.

I got a fabulous Learn-to-Knit book for Christmas, along with swank bamboo knitting needles and alpaca yarn. This may actually happen some time relatively soon. WOW.
I learned to crochet this past summer when I worked at a Girl Scout Camp from the Arts and Crafts Specialist. And then when I went off to college this year, my RA held a floor activity about learning to knit. Since then, every week we have a “Stitch ‘n’ Bitch” group where we sit around and work on some kind of crafty project together. It’s totally relaxing, and now I have stuff to do while watching TV or something, and I can give homemade presents now. :-)
I officially suck at crochet… perhaps it could be blamed on my limited resources and the size of the yarn, but all I made were several scarves big enough for stuffed animals : )
Not only did I learn to crochet granny squares, but I’ve ordered “Stitch n Bitch” and Thursday night I’m taking a knitting class… yay!
