take more pride in my appearance

Yup, I’ve continued with the skirts as it’s been so damned hot recently – gotta love thin, long, linen and strappy tops!
I had to brave the sandals without being able to prepare my feet last week so I’ve just spent ages scrubbing and moisturising them, and shaping and varnishing my nails, ready for the next few days!
... Knowing my luck the lovely cold weather will come back now, rendering my efforts too little too late.

Yup, carrying on showing that I have legs by wearing dresses since getting back from Download.

(Oh and I called this post LEGS coz ZZTop were awesome at Download hehe!)

... It also gives me an excuse to wear my stripey knee socks (purple and black) and my big chunky heels yaaaaaaaaaaaayyy!!!

.EDIT. My beloved chunky heels in the pic broke .sobs. The sling-back strap on one of them to be precise. Thankfully I have a mate who’s into leather working so I’ll see if he could just stick a stud through it and one to match on the other shoe OR (even better if he can) have a way to easily sew it back together as it’s pretty tough old leather. I can only hope. I’ve had these babies (and loved them) for about 10years so it’d be a real shock to have to throw them away :(

... Meant I didn’t get a chance to do my washing so all my scruffy clothes I tend to live in are in the wash. This forced me to wear ‘nice’ (BLAND) clothes yesterday.

I did get one remark about the outfit yesterday “you look like you’d like church music”.

I was suitably unimpressed. I mean it wasn’t like I’d made the effort really but still, not exactly encouraging me to step outside my comfort zone. I did have fun retorting that “I actually love death metal and stuff that would scare the cr*p outta you” (he was an annoying trendy/scene guy that I’d previously met and disliked). I was glad when it was time for home; only 45mins thankfully.

They’re pretty dead now, my beloved zip offs. There’s a hole in the left thigh, and one on the backside of em – both pretty bad – and they’re faded to hell with a few paint splodges that just won’t come out :( I bought em when I’d first moved back south so that’s a good 3yrs wear out of them (and I switch between them and one other pair of trews generally so that’s damn good going!)

... On the up-side I doubt I’ll be buying more baggy jeans (unless there’s a moment of weakness and a spare £30 when I’m in Brighton) so it’ll force me to wear smarter stuff.

Mixed emotions on this :S

I’ve lost a teeny bit of weight as my baggy jeans aren’t as tight round the waist as normal. W00p! But still, it means I wore scruffy jeans again yesterday and am bound to today. Ho hum :/

I’ve been struggling. A few days have been spent in baggy jeans and Tshirts but some days I’ve been dressing smart casual.

As I’ve said before, crashing round Andy’s = Hannah the Scout and being round mine = Hannah the young woman.

Lol the sooner I have the money and guts to start driving the better in terms of my appearance! Ah that’s weird.

Went to the Imperial War Museum today wearing an old pair of smart black trews that I JUST fit into with my pretty shirt dress over the top. Wore my black leather jacket and boots and my smallest handbag.

... All this was possible coz Andy’s dad drove us there and back and I was even too warm if anything inside the museum. Result.

Of course the shirt dress will look better when I can nip it in at the waist more (with the belt that came with it) when I lose the belly flab… Then I’d be able to fit into more pairs of trousers too :) I really should get an exercise ball and do the work outs I used to do. Will hunt for one when I’ve been paid sufficiently to do so.

I’ve been wearing black trousers (bootcut) with a smart/cas. top and leather boots, handbag and jacket to work recently. It’s been pretty hot and sunny for dear old England! Got a few compliments from other staff :) Said they barely recognised me from the other end of the track lol!

Ok so yesterday I went for a day out with Andy, his dad and his bro. I kept the baggy jeans but stuck a nice shirt and jacket with them, which I bought a year or two ago and have worn once before. I was freezing cold. I remembered why I don’t like trying to dress nice; coz of my poor circulation and unless it’s around 22deg.C or above.

It’s so much easier to wear comfy layers when you’re an outdoors-y type that could be going from work to a big long walk through fields, to a meal, to shopping… I have to be ready for anything “Be Prepared” as the Scouts say :( I tend to spend a lot of time crashing round Andy’s too and I can’t exactly keep clothes round there coz there’s not enough space for the 5 of them in their 2bedroom house! SO this means one pair of tough baggy jeans (worn for 3-4 days at a time) spare undies and spare top(s) in bag when I stay over.

That’s another thing… Handbags vs backpack. I have about 10bags and it’s almost always the backpack that ends up being carried – costume for work, clothes for staying round andy’s AND general handbag items (wallet, keys, phone, tobacco tin, lipgloss, painkillers, puzzle book). Needless to say my handbags aren’t even THAT small. I carry a puzzle book (smaller than A5 kinda size) coz I spend so much time waiting around in between things so need something to amuse me.

I’m still gonna try with this but I know it’s not gonna be easy.

I put this entry on my to-do list and I completely forgot about it. But yes, I do want to put more pride into my appearance. I want to learn to take care of myself and not abuse myself. It’s not vain to have pride in how you look. It gives you self-esteem. I always think I need a reason to dress up well, but I shouldn’t NEED one. Just the fact that I am a human being that respects her self-worth should be enough. I want to primp myself because this is the only body I’m getting in this lifetime and I should make it proud!
