How I did it: I just resolved to do it, and did it. It helped that I had a reason; I needed to check in on his voter registration status. Well, that's not my responsibility but I wanted to make sure he was registered (he's 18!!!).

that doesn’t really talk on the phone unless there’s a reason. And for my 30YO self and my 18YO brother, there’s usually not a reason . . . so I need to reach out and give a ring once in a while.

I intend to call my brother for next Friday. And then once a month after that.
But I don’t think we’re hostile. I’m not anyway. He’s a little idiosyncratic but I need to get in touch with my past. He always sends extravagant birthday gifts to my kids. He’s a good guy down deep. I just have to keep that in mind and learn to ignore him always trying to save my soul.
