Driving down to Goa for a monsoon holiday on 29th July 2009 to 3rd August 2009. Wonder how it would be to get drenched in the rains. Only the brave souls do Goa in this season.
How to go to goa
How I did it:
- Decided to take an off-season Break with my better half.
- Booked the accomodation 60 days ahead.
- Planned out the journey and the mode of transport. We decided to do the journey by road. Pune to Margao (Goa) is about 500km. It can be done in one day but we didn't want to do it in a hurry. We wanted to enjoy the greenery and waterfalls on the way!
- Halted overnight at a midway destination. While going to Goa we halted at Old Goa and visited Divar island the next day. Then drove via Ponda and Margao to Varca beach (our final destination). On the way back we halted at Ratnagiri, the land of the famous Alphanso mango, and returned via Chiplun and Koyna.
Lessons & tips:
- Plan ahead for your journey. It saves a lot of confusion later.
- Don't be in a hurry. Make the journey the destination. Enjoy the scenery on the way.
Resources:
- Maps and Travel guide books.
- Vehicle Service. Get the car serviced or repaired if travelling by road.

I went to Goa in the monsoons and it was a good experience. The good part about this is that it won’t be crowded and everything will be cheaper than it usually is. We rented out a car, so the rains weren’t much of a damper.
The bad part is that .. well it rains. So all the water sports and beaches will be more or less closed.
I would surely like to go during the non-rainy season once.
i’ve been to goa 3 timesw now and am going for at least 6mths in October and can’t wait to get back there!
