Can’t remember who said it, probably Solzhenitsyn. There are three kinds of people in the world. Those who have read The Brothers Karamazov, those who have not yet read the Brothers Karamazov and those who never will read the Brothers Karamazov. I would venture to add, ‘those who don’t know what the hell the Brothers Karamazov is, nor do they care.’ Wish I were one of them.
But seriously, how many times can you get somewhere in the mid-800 page range and not finish the damn thing? (3 so far)
I fear that the Brothers K have been relegated to said pile in favor of the contents of the English books shipment I just received (which are being rapidly consumed) and due to the never ending parade of books on fascism. Egads, I may never finish this book.
Cons:
Unwilling/unable to drag myself out of bed/off couch
Miscellaneous aches and pains
Missing out on 30 degree weather in October… 10 blocks away from the Mediterranean
Pros:
Devoured 150 pages of the Brothers K
I finished it while I was in France. It was an awesome book and I am really glad I finished it. The only thing that I would suggest is not to read this kind of book while trying to work on a foreign language. I had a really hard time speaking French after I would put the book down.
I am on page 161! I am going to try to read a little every night before bed. It is hard to find time to read these days.
