Quitting Time on this Goal, here's why: 11 months ago

    1. Be a successful published author—since this is already on my 42 Things list, I don’t think I need to repeat it.

    2. Own an incredible artifact, like a mastodon skeleton.

    3. Pay cash for a car—I’m not in the market for a new car until the one I have dies. That means I’ve got at least another 5 years. I’m not going to keep this goal here for that.

    4. Get my Ph.D. —Again, this is on my 43 Things list already

    5. Own a casino. —I own casino stock. I’m happy with that.

    6. Dye my hair an outrageous color like blue or bright red. —Not going to happen. I like my job and I like my hair. This would have been fun, but I’m over it.

    7. Own my bakery/apartment building free and clear. —This falls under the sucessful business.

    8. See where my Aunt was born in Sicily. —If this happens, it happens, I’m not pinning happiness on it.

    9. Get the name of an editor at The New Yorker. —Easy to get. Getting them to publish you? Not so easy.

    10. Take a cruise around the world. —I don’t know. I’m thinking I’d actually be bored as all get out on a cruise. I’m planning much more hands on traveling.

    11. Get a pilot’s license. —I’m going to add this to my 43 Things.

    12. Find clothes that are as comfortable as my work out clothes, but actually look good for a change. —Done.

    13. Go to the Smithsonian museums. —Every year, Baby. Every year.

    14. Get my Two Towers and Pirates posters framed to match my “Kill Bill” poster. —I’m not sure if I want them to match anymore.

    15. Wear a costume—hehe…

    16. MST3K a movie with friends—Every time I watch a movie it seems.

    17. Drive up Rt. 15 or through PA to actually visit some of the places I’m used to seeing on the side of the road (Clyde’s Reptile House for example)—I’m just going to put this under traveling/road trip and leave it at that.

    18. Find or display our collection of international stamps. —So not into stamps these days.

    19. Watch and old Cary Grant movie. —The old ones are the best. Charade, Arsenic and Old Lace, To Catch a Theif. happy sigh

    20. Watch old 80’s shows like MacGyver or the A-team—Hulu.com.

    21. Get a piece of found item art (or make it myself). —Gonna make this myself.

    22. Get another good piece of garden statuary—Haven’t seen anything I’ve liked in years.

    23. Watch fireflies—From the back porch every 4th of July

    24. Play the piano—It’s almost dug out from under the recycling. Got a new song-book too. One that has Rainbow Connection.

    25. Get a well=written rejection letter—See published author

    26. Write poems—Again, I’ve done this. Even been published. Time to move on.

    27. Finish exercise goals to get my rewards—Wii Fit. Wii Fit ROCKS.

    48. Use my nail polish 16 months ago

I got my nails done. Well, that lasted about half a week. Which meant I had to redo it. Oy! It was so much harder than I remembered it being. Still, it means that my polish is no longer just sitting in a drawer. (I’ve also sold about half of it.)

    21. Get my flute out and play it.

    22. Find an antique sword to add to my collection.

    23. Find someone who is willing to discuss nonsensical things like the mean of grey just for the heck of it. My co-worker with whom I currently and will after the next move still, share an office with. We talk about all sorts of unusual things.

    25. Go to the Smithsonian museums.

    26. Get my Two Towers and Pirates posters framed to match my “Kill Bill” poster.

    27. Wear a costume – Wear one to work on Halloween, and maybe make one to wear to the Ren Faire this year.

    30. Look for interesting tattoos on people in the malls and things. Ask about them if I’m feeling brave.

    31. MST3K a movie with friends

    32. Go to a science museum and activate the displays.

    35. Find or display our collection of international stamps.

    37. Giggle over out-rageous plot twists – Work on our H.I.T. stories.

    40. Watch and old Cary Grant movie.

    41. See an actor I like in a good movie for once – Hope and persistence. There’s got to be a few out there, right?

    42. Watch old 80’s shows like MacGyver or the A-team – I have the DVD’s. I just need to clear some space in my schedule.

    53. Find out a new piece of information about Alice in Wonderland collectables – Research, research, research. I love it. I just have to do it.

    54. Watch fireflies – Go out on the porch and look over into the tree preserve and watch them flitting about. They’ll only be out for a few more months. Fall is coming.

    56. Get a well=written rejection letter – Send out submissions. Can’t get rejections if I don’t try to get published right?

    57. Write poems – I need to sit down and just do this on the back porch. I can watch the hawk and see if the heron comes flying by before the geese shove off for the winter.

    58. Finish exercise goals to get my rewards Walk 1 more hour and I’ll get a new pair of shoes!

-59. Re-read old stories I’ve written to see if they’re salvagable– I’ve started working on several of these again. They just need some work.

    60. Fill up my piggy bank until it’s almost impossible to move it – Winnie’s in storage, so I’m filling up my travel piggy. He’s got aliens on one side (for Roswell) and a devil on the other (for Hell, Michigan). He’s getting full, but he’s not full yet!

49 - eat fresh corn 2 years ago

I picked up some corn at the farmers’ market when I was in PA. We had it the next day and it was perfect. I love corn season.

    44 - see a wedding I've planned come together 2 years ago

Well, it was a sucess at the end of the day and we got paid for it, but it was chaotic.

The best man text messaged that he wasn’t coming the day before the wedding with no explination.

    The sub best-man was late.

The venue was stormed out and we had to have the wedding inside instead of at the beach.

The flower girl disappeared. We were inches away from calling 911 when her grandmother found her sulking in the closet. If I’d had my way she wouldn’t have been sitting at the reception.

Then, after the ceremony, while folks were at the reception, the ENTIRE WEDDING PARTY disappeared for 1/2 hour.

Still, at the end of the day, the food was excellent, the DJ was top-notch, and the photographer was incredible. The ceremony was lovely and we had a lot of people tell us that it was the best wedding they’d ever been to.

I’m calling it a good learning experience and a sucess. (Especially once the check clears.)

    28. Take B&W photos 2 years ago

Took some gorgeous black and whites in Hawaii. I’ve even gotten them developed. Now I have to figure out what to do with them.

    29. Play on a playground. 2 years ago

When my best friend came down from NYC, we went and hung out at the park and played on the playground. It was completely abandoned because it was the middle of winter, but it was a lot of fun. I remember slides and things being a lot bigger when I was a kid. I still have no monkey-bar strength.

Made Irish soda bread for the first time this week.

I also made Challa (first time as a loaf as opposed to a roll) and French Bread.
