I don’t expect to do this personally, as I believe it is a genetic disorder. My son, owen, was in my opinion born with the conditin, he was strange in hospital and as her brother and father have Asperger’s Syndrome which is a form of autism, I think it is probably the case in this family.
I believe research iito the cause is vital. I do not believe it is a condition which needs to be wiped out as many of our most reative thinsres probably had at least Asperger’s; but those who are truely afflicted with classic ‘Kanner’s’ can have sad and confusing lives.
Owen is 13 and as happy as a clam. We have spent an enormous amount of money on his therapy to achieve marginally speech and adequate personal care; but he is happy, he has friends and socilay interacts, he is healthy and we love him.
I do not know what the long term prospects for him are, but we could say that about all of us.
