Ski Alyeska in Girdwood, Alaska

Awesome mountain! Not for the faint of heart. Gnarly terrain similar to Jackson Hole, gnarly coastal weather similar to Whistler. For those who complain of rain, it’s usually only raining below Midway. Up top, it’s snowing like crazy! We topped 800 inches last season, more than any other resort in North America!

A wonderful weekend in Girdwood with my brother’s family, my mom, my sister and some other friends. The skiing was great (a bit windy at times) but I loved every run down the mountain. My legs are barking.

I’m boarding an early flight tomorrow for Anchorage. I plan to head down to Alyeska the following day for 3 days of skiing with my brother and his family. I can hardly wait. I understand there is a lot of new snow and the weather is warm. Glorious skiing awaits.

We had the annual ASTE conference and I came down a day early and skied at Alyeska. Beautiful mountain, gorgeous views of the bay, decent snow, and advanced level skiing abounds.

I’ve been there several times but it always seems to be raining the day we decide to go skiing. We went to the top once in the summer of 2003 and took the attached picture.
