How to pierce my cartilage

How I did it: i just decided to do it one day because i've always wanted it. after watching tons of youtube vids, i was motivated. so i decided to pierce my ear with the piercing stud i got my second holes done with. i numbed my cartilage with an ice pop for a few mins. then i sterilized everything. i cleaned my ear with peroxide, burned the stud, and put it in some rubbing alcohol. i washed my hands and set all my stuff on the tissue paper in front of my mirror. i marked where i wanted it with a sharpie. i wasn't scared because i self-harm, and cutting is almost like piercing, the same pain i'd say. i pushed the stud into my ear and it went through the first layer pretty quick. i didn't hear much of a pop, because i was blasting some music (it really helps). the hardest part was using all my strength to push the stud through. my cartilage is hella thick! i got it in and stabbed my finger from the back since i didn't use an apple or potato. i was so happy when i realized i actually did it. it's been around 4 months now and has been healing fine with sea salt soaks twice a day. Lessons & tips: you need patience. cartilage piercings can take up to a year to fully heal. also, whichever ear you decide to pierce, you can't sleep on that side. it's hell if you get your hair caught in it or bump into something. i recommend putting on a motivational song or something to get you through it. i was listening to 'lifetime' by Papa Roach. I hid it for three months, but then my mom found out (she let me keep it though). Make sure (if you know your parents will give you hell) to hide it or use a clear retainer. DO NOT AND I REPEAT DO NOT touch it, twist it, or change the jewelry until it has healed unless you want a keloid or hypertrophic scarring. First I wanted to pierce my tragus, then I decided to do a helix (not the standard one but further form the border, like irisknotwise’s one).
I’ve done it a some days ago by using local anaestesia. It hurted like hell, when the anaestesia weakened. Although it hurted so much it was wort doing it, because it looks very nice. I think I wouldn’t do any cartilage in near future because of the pain.

I’ve been wanting to do this for some time now but I was just to scared to do it. My 21st birthday is coming up in 6 days (Nov. 24th) and I really either wanted to get my cartilage pierced or get a tattoo. I chose the piercing first because I still need to do my homework on the tattoo and such. After work today I went to the mall with my mother and we got it done at Claire’s. I read so much into this first so I think that was what really scared me to do it. But I did it and it really didn’t feel anymore painful than just getting your lobes pierced. For those of you wanting to do it, do it. You’ll be happy you did!
