How I did it: Nothing magical here: I just made time for it! The Personal Challenge helped -- although somehow the challenge got moved to "past challenges" when I still had 4 days to go and I couldn't figure out how to bring it back :-( !!! Bummer!) Read how I did it… 4 years ago

Continuing to get out each day. On the 7th, I walked in the morning at a college campus in Wisconsin. On the 8th and 9th, I walked in town. And today, for Mother’s Day, my kids and D are humoring me with a hike along the Lakeshore! Hurray! 4 years ago

Yesterday, I was fortunate to be able to do my walk with an old friend. She likes to walk at my pace, which is rare and wonderful! And we are both out of our home offices for a meeting, so we found a lovely waterside location to walk. Wonderful! 4 years ago

Lovely, warm evening for a walk up the hill, back down to town and then out toward the west end. Such a pleasant, quiet little town. If I must live in town, this isn’t such a bad place! 4 years ago

Still keeping up with this goal, just not the posting part! These have been several busy and stressful days, so the walking was more important because it’s good “thinking time,” too! Today it’s lovely and I’m headed out for a morning walk… 4 years ago

I have to admit that I am getting tired of this goal. Not because I don’t want to walk. I do, and I have been! But I guess because I feel I’m back in the routine well enough that I am tempted to loosen the reigns so that when my time is limited (as it is most evenings), I could choose to pursue one of my next priority goals, like yoga practice.
Having said this, I have decided that I want to stick it out and complete my personal challenge before moving on. At that time, I’ll add a less precise goal, something like “walk daily whenever possible.” Make it so! 4 years ago

... again! It’s okay, though! I’m kinda getting used to it! 4 years ago

Today I walked twice, for a 1/2 hour at noon with co-workers and for 45 minutes with a friend in the evening. Being with others who have short legs reduced the cardiac benefits significantly, but occasionally the social benefits of walking with others can supercede other concerns! It was just wonderful to be out twice on such a beautiful day … 4 years ago

Walked this evening while my daughter worked on her homework. As ever, it felt wonderful to be out and about. And I felt cheerful, which makes walking around town more appetizing. Beautiful view out on the bay tonight. There was a field of mini-icebergs about half-way out … very scenic! 4 years ago

It feels a bit redundant to say it, but it was yet another gray, cold, but still lovely day for a walk! It feels wonderful to be rebuilding this routine of a daily walk! Hurray! 4 years ago

This morning, it was pouring. So I pulled on my raincoat and went anyway! It was a lovely day for a walk, not too windy. The kids had practices at the school, so I walked the school’s trails into the school forest, around the lake, and out to the abandoned railroad track. At the lake, I saw a pair of common mergansers and about 15 buffleheads in breeding plumage. Lovely, lovely, lovely! It was a shorter route than I prefer, but it suited the day. After walking, I was at least warmed up a bit for my yoga practice … 4 years ago

Today I walked up the big hill southwest of town. It was a beautiful, partly sunny day in the mid-60’s Fahrenheit—woo hoo! Lovely. The best part about today’s walk was that as I approached the quiet, winding road up the hill, I noticed, at the very highest part visible, a group of a dozen or more young children, walking up the hill with several women. “Wow,” I thought, “I rarely see anyone walking up this hill, much less small kids, particularly during the school day hours.” They disappeared from view until I had round that same corner, at which point I saw about 40 children and numerous adults, including several I recognized as teachers, all stopped at the place where the road Y’s. I thought this was wonderful! Really, what better thing to do with kids these days, even during the school day. Take them outside, encourage them to get their hearts pumping, walking in nature and observing! Perfect. We crossed paths as they headed back down the hill and I walked on past their stopping point. 4 years ago

Having just glanced at the entry I wrote for Day 7, I find that I could write exactly the same thing for yesterday and be accurate! It was indeed another cool, wet day. But my walk felt better in some way. My mind was more clear, so it was more enjoyable. I noticed several other people out walking in our little town. It’s always uplifting when walkers smile and greet eachother, as if we share a secret, a bond of some sort. 4 years ago

Another opportunity to walk in the rain. The cold wet weather, the grayness, infuse the evening with calm. The perfect antidote to a busy day! 4 years ago

Todays walk was lovely. It was raining lightly, which only adds to the charm, I think! I quit running ten years ago for the sake of my knees, so my walks are VERY fast, in order to get my heartrate up. But today I couldn’t resist running for a little while—it was so beautiful this morning! 4 years ago

Yesterday it was sunny and lovely. Feeling tired from the work week, I sat down on the couch as soon as I got home; it felt like the first time I’d rested all week, and immediately fell asleep! Fortunately, a friend called about 15 minutes later. I wakened feeling as if I had been in deep sleep for hours, rested and ready to go! I had a lovely walk, going only about 2 miles, but ending up at a friend’s house where I had dinner and watched a movie about Mardie Murie’s life. It has been many years since I read “Two in the Far North”—Wow, what a woman she was!
This morning, I went for an early walk to enjoy the sounds of morning. I do love that blissful time of day! The birds just sound so happy and full of right intention! I’ve got lots of chores to do today, but will probably take an evening walk as well :-)
So, 43Things is working for me as a motivational tool. I wish I could do more cheering, though … I don’t understand the cheers thing entirely—seems like they appear when someone else cheers you, but is it one for one? 4 years ago

Success continues. It’s all about getting into a routine! There’s always something else I feel compelled to do first, so it becomes a matter of priorities. Tonight I will walk first, THEN go to the office and play catch up (for my Spring Break absence!) 4 years ago
