Marta Aguinaga García is 49. She lives with her son in the Hernández community located in Los Chiles in the Aljuela province. This community stands out for its mountainous regions with great scenery. It is very humid, and it is very close to the northern border of the country. Its primary economic activities are livestock and farming. Specifically, they plant basic grains, tubers, and oranges.

Marta raises and fattens chickens. She wants to expand her project by including laying hens. This is for the production of meat and eggs. She sells her products to the neighbors in her community, and they are very satisfied with the quality. He husband helps occasionally with the transport.

Country #43: Iraq 1 week ago

At last I’m done with this goal!!! :)

However, this does not at all mean that I’m leaving Kiva, as long as some kiva borrowers want my money… I’ll keep lending it :)

Today I finally found a country on kiva that I had still not lent to. This time I lent to a lady opperating a beauty saloon in Iraq...

This borrower is 46 years old, married, and is the mother of four children. Her husband is retired and his pension is $250.

She has experience of twenty years in this business and nine years ago she established her own shop. She has received three loans including this one, and has made all the repayments in a timely manner. As a result of these loans she raised her income and became capable of getting more customers.

Here you can view my Kiva profile to see what projects I’ve supported so far.

KIVA- Loan #1- Vietnam 3 weeks ago

I just made my first micro loan through Kiva today! I lent $25 to Nguyễn Thị Thanh of Đông Anh, Vietnam:

Thanh is married and has one young child. To making a living, Thanh operates a family member’s poultry business, where she raises and sells chickens. Thanh has been engaged in this business for over a year and earns approximately 2.000.000 VND a month from these activities.
In 2008, Thanh joined SEDA to gain access to financial services to help improve her living situation and ability to engage in business activities. Thanh has successfully repaid a previous loan of 2.204.000 VND from SEDA. This previous loan was used to purchase chicks to raise and sell in the future. She is now requesting a new loan of 654.000 VND which that she will use to buy more chicks. This will be Thanh’s third loan from SEDA. Thanh plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to improve her family’s living conditions._

Country #42: Palestine 4 weeks ago

Just made another Kiva loan, this time to Imad in Palestine... which is then the 42nd country that I make a Kiva loan to. I’m getting close to finishing this goal – only one country to go now :)

Imad, 35 years old, is married with three children. All his children are currently in school. Imad’s main activity is selling fruit and vegetables. As of now, this is his only source of income.

This is the first time that Imad has requested a loan from Ryada. This loan will let him purchase more fruits and vegetables to sell and therefore improve his business by being able to provide a larger variety of goods.

Sudan added to my list 1 month ago

I’ve made another micro loan through KIVA. This time the receiver is a 40 year old woman in Sudan who brews and sells alcohol. Sudan is thus the 41st country that I make a kiva loan to… this goal has been going well recently, but I’m afraid that finding the last 2 countries to lend to might get a little hard since most of the loans available are from the countries that I have already sent some money to. But lets hope I get luck, maybe with some help from Kiva Alerts :)

Justina James is 40 years old and married to a policeman. She has five children, two of whom go to school. Justina is currently in the business of brewing and selling alcohol, and is requesting a loan to purchase more brewing materials, such as pipes, yeast, etc. With the extra profits from her loan, she hopes to be able to set up a bar at the market and purchase crates of beer to sell.

My loan went to Aramata Gomis, who is 45 years old, married and responsible for two children. She has been a member of the Niafor Village Bank for the last 5 and a half years. She has taken out eleven loans and has duly repaid each without difficulty. With these loans she has built a peanut business. The profits earned through this business has allowed her to help with the household expenses, improve the family’s living conditions and provided for the education of her children.

40 down... only 3 to go! 1 month ago

Today I made one more loan through kiva.org. This time the receiver is a 22 year old baker in Armenia who is funding his studies. Armenia is thus the 40th country that I make a kiva loan to… which means I have only 3 countries to go before this goal will be checked off :)

Babken Hovhannisyan is 22 years old. He lives in the village of Ddmashen near the town of Sevan with his parents and his two sisters. One sister is school-aged, and the other is jobless. Babken’s mother teaches biology in a Ddmashen school, and his father helps Babken in the business.

Babken studies in the Correspondence Courses at the Teachers-training College in Yerevan. Parallel to studying he has his own business, which consists of lavash (Armenian bread) production and sales. The bakery is in the family’s private house. Babken and his father have been running this business for five years, and they now employ a staff of two.

Babken needs US$ 3,000 for wholesale purchase of flour. Babken wants to use one part of the flour in his business and the other part he wants to resell. With the income for his business, Babken hopes to increase his sales and pay for his studies.

Retail business in Benin 2 months ago

I have added one new Kiva loan to my portfolio , this time I lent 25$ to Annick who lives in Benin. Benin is therefore the 39th country that I make a KIVA loan in.

Annick is married and has four children, ages 18, 14, 7, and 5. She runs a store on the edge of town in Porto-Novo, the capital of Benin. At her store, she sells shoes, clothing, bags, and fabrics. Outside of her store, she sells cookies and other snacks. Annick has been running this business for two years. Before, she worked at a store in another part of the city.

Annick buys her goods in Lome, Togo, which is a few hours away from Porto-Novo. It is expensive to cross the border, but she goes to Lome because of its diverse selection of products. Annick is seeking a loan from Alide, a Kiva Field Partner, in order to strengthen her activity. She would like to buy more bags, shoes, and food to sell.

    I love http://www.kiva.org/ :)
