...and came home with a chair plus the knowledge of how to make other chairs in the future. Worked out pretty well!

I’ll have to wait for another week to start another class. Bummer. I was so looking forward to doing some steambending.
Only a short class, but still a useful one. I love it when instructors demonstrate kickback (deliberately), because it really drives the point home.
This will teach me some really useful skills, including steambending and bending forms. I’m really looking forward to it. Plus, I could always use some cool-looking boxes. :)
Now that I’m feeling a lot better (thanks to yoga), my interest in woodworking is renewed. I’m considering a longer-term class, but I just have to decide which one’s right for me.
I’m going to call tomorrow to see if it’s full. I’m crossing my fingers that it’s not. I like the one- to three- day classes that are prevalent around here.
I have a few tools, but looking through a book today, I have some serious gaps. With only a chopsaw, a flush trim saw, and a dovetail saw, I’m sort of lacking a way of dealing with ripping and/or sheet goods.
Hrm.

Someday when I have more of all of those, I’ll do this. For now, off the list.

I guess once you ask for a schedule to be sent to you, you’re in for life. I’ve come to the conclusion that I simply do not have time to do this yet. Some day, I would love to take a woodworking class, but right now my other goals are more important. To do this, I’d have to stop going to 826 and that’s not going to happen.

It was full and nobody dropped. I’m having a hard time finding an appropriate class around here. You’d think in Los Angeles there’d be a million opportunities for taking any class you’d like. It sure would be easier if I wanted to take a class on writing screenplays. There are places that do industrial furniture and cabinetry and a few on turning. But I really want one on hand tools. Joinery. Things to help me gain skills to build a guitar.
I’m actually starting to question this goal anyway. I’m wondering if woodworking and building my own guitar isn’t just a time and money hole. Maybe I should concentrate on PLAYING the guitar instead. Now there’s an idea.

I found a woodworking class at a local design school (OTIS), but it was full when I called. I’m the first one on the alternates list; I really hope that I get in.
