Sell everything I don't need

I am currently endeavoring to sell everything i and my 3 small girls own including our house and taking off on an indefinite road trip….my girls are 5, 6, and 7 and it has come as a complete shock to me how quickly they are growing up….I have always wanted to travel and never had the opportunity, so now I am MAKING the opportunity. I have very adventurous kids and am going to start with a year long cross country trip and then go from there. We will homeschool (which we do not currently do, but have always wanted to) and see the sites. Since we will be living on a very fixed income, selling everything we have will enable us to set up a little nest egg for emergencies and other unforseen expenses. Sounds crazy, HUH? shooting for June 2010 to leave…so that gives us approx 11 months to sell everything and the house too and have everything in order….hoping to work it out….

I’ve made up my mind. I’m either getting rid of, selling, “loaning” or bringing to my mother’s house nearly all of my belongings.

I’ve slacked off for too long. I’m such a ..slacker hehe.

I put 50 things up on eBay just over 10 days ago, and sold 7 things. I posted them today, and have relisted 43 things this evening. Two of them already have bids.

I am trying to sell all the old toys and crud from the bottom of my wardrobe to free up some space and make a little money. :]

Just like Brad Pitt said in Fight Club, “The things you own eventually own you.” I don’t want to spend the rest of my life tied down by “stuff”.

This makes me laugh..saying I want to sell everything I don’t need.. I want to keep this entry, even though I’ve redefined what this means to me a few times. At first I was thinking “stuff I don’t use” not necessarily stuff I don’t need. What I didn’t include though, were things I don’t use, but decided after going through it, that I may use it at some point in the future.

Then I thought..well I don’t NEED anything I own really. Of course that’s pretty far out if you think about it. I don’t even NEED a bed, but it’ll make my life more comfortable to have one..

So now what this means to me, is more or less, getting rid of many things I don’t need, which are only distractions in my life anyway. I can’t say I’ll sell everything I don’t NEED (nor will I sell it all since I’ve also given things away), but I can say, I’m looking to lighten my load and stop collecting crap.

I had a spring cleaning weekend last weekend, and now I have a complete “pile” of things I want to get rid of, in any way possible. First option obviously is to try selling, then lowering the price, then giving away, then throwing away. I’ve decided that I have until the middle of June to find a new home for these things, or else whatever is left, will just be thrown out.

So far, I’ve sold a few more things on ebay, and craigslist..I even went through my lego’s piece by piece and found pieces that I don’t need at all.

I took a break on this, but now I’m going back in to sort through more stuff. This is becoming a long-term goal, as I can’t seem to part with it all still, and only break down and get rid of a few things at a time.

ive realized that i really do need everything i have right now. i tried to consolidate yesterday but saw that everything i own is too sentimental, and then the other stuff, i could throw away because it wasnt useful enough to sell.

I still have a pile of things I’m trying to sell, and I have more around that I haven’t gone through yet..one pile at a time though. I have however sold quite a number of things including cd’s, old phones I never use anymore, a minidisc player I never use, some books..also after I find a big enough box, I’ll be putting up an xbox games lot on ebay. I’m pretty satisfied so far, and have made a pretty good sum of money off everything so far. About $100 for things I don’t use anymore. Pretty good. I’m gonna keep going too.

One thing I’ve found, is that some things I can’t seem to let go of even though I don’t use them! For example, some really good music, but I just never listen anymore. I’ll be going through my cd’s probably 8 times within the year, weeding stuff out. I really want to be free of these things. Who cares if I’m getting rid of good stuff? If someone else actually USES this stuff, that should make me happy. :)
